Job Description

Position Overview

Oversee K-12 urban ministry at Laura's Home, providing relevant and nurturing programming and activities, evaluating student's change toward healthy choices and behaviors.

Essential Job Functions

  • Develop & implement relevant programming for children Kindergarten through twelfth grade, including gospel-centered lessons, bible-based character development, and academic improvement
  • Facilitate daily afterschool programs, special clubs, special events, field trips, utilizing and supervising staff and volunteers
  • Identifying and developing solutions for deficiencies in youth academics - utilizing community resources, staff, and volunteers
  • Develop, facilitate, and supervise school-break camps (winter, spring, summer)
  • Flexible schedule required in order to be on-site for programming, and available to drive and chaperone at special events, field trips - afterschool, evenings, and weekends. Must be available when Cleveland schools are closed.
  • Limited time off over summer and school breaks
  • Attend Laura's Home staff meetings on a weekly basis
  • Attend Monday morning manager's meeting
  • Supervise staff, interns, and volunteers
  • Supervise Youth Program leader including, hiring, managing, training, evaluating, etc.
  • Perform and supervise assessments of children, working closely with Mental Health Counselors and other staff
  • Continuous program evaluation and improvement
  • Collaborates with community resources for field trips, activities, social services
  • Attends outside meeting as necessary
  • Stays current with trends and needs of children in crisis
  • Advocate at school, and in other forums for children, if necessary

Professional Qualifications

  • College Degree Required
  • 2-4 years' experience leading a faith-based urban youth program, including overseeing and leading
  • Demonstrated ability to de-escalate and manage unruly behavior
  • Self-motivated, organized and independent
  • Demonstrated creativity in program development
  • Knowledge in trauma-informed care
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Valid driver's license
  • Clean driving record, able to drive 15-passenger van
  • Able to pass background investigation

Physical Requirements

  • Stand or walk constantly (for up to an entire shift) on various surfaces (tile, concrete)
  • Bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various duties
  • Constant use of eyes (correctable vision to normal level required) to observe, read, interact with clients, volunteers, and co-workers, includes hand/eye coordination
  • Read, understand and clearly speak English; constantly use speech and hearing (correctable to normal level required) in communicating with clients, volunteers, and co-workers, giving and receiving instructions
  • Constant use of both hands and arms in reaching/handling/grasping/fingering while
  • Subject to excessive noise
  • Must possess effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the general public in a professional and effective manner;
  • Must be able to use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines
  • Must be able to communicate professionally via computer programs such as Microsoft Outlook
  • Must be able to handle pressure of constantly working with individuals in crisis.

Spiritual Qualifications

  • Professes Jesus as Lord and Savior
  • Believes the Bible to be the inspired, infallible, & ultimate authoritative Word of God (II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:21)
  • Patterns life after the example of Jesus and the commands and principles found in the Bible
  • Desires to serve the Lord in the ministry of rescue
