Job Description

The City Mission, a faith based, not for profit organization serving the homeless and at risk population, is seeking a Youth Program Leader that creates,organizes and supervises recreational youth programming, including physical and special interest activities. The Youth Program Leader will need to have a flexible schedule and be available in the evenings.

Essential Job Functions

  • Supports the core beliefs and vision of The City Mission.
  • Develops programming that is culturally diverse, interesting and relevant to specific age groups.
  • Continuously evaluates and improves program design, curriculum, and standards.
  • Establishes program standards; measures results; makes necessary adjustments.
  • Participates in the recruitment and training of unsalaried staff.
  • Supports fundraising activities and other events; markets and promotes programs.
  • Ensures compliance to established procedures, policies, and safety standards.
  • Informs management by analysing special reports; summarizing information; identifying trends.
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule - required to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Able to relate well to youth of all ages.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly and safe environment.
  • Interacts, relates, and serves as a positive role model.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Comfortable driving 15-passenger van after passing training program.

Professional Qualifications

  • Relevant College Degree preferred
  • 2-3 years' experience in Evangelical Youth Ministry
  • Strong work ethic
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Microsoft Office proficient
  • Crisis intervention training preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Stand or walk constantly (for up to an entire shift) on various surfaces (tile, concrete)
  • Bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various duties
  • Constant use of eyes (correctable vision to normal level required) to observe, read, interact with clients, volunteers, and co-workers, includes hand/eye coordination
  • Read, understand and clearly speak English; constantly use speech and hearing (correctable to normal level required) in communicating with clients, volunteers, and co-workers, giving and receiving instructions
  • Constant use of both hands and arms in reaching/handling/grasping/fingering while
  • Subject to excessive noise
  • Must possess effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the general public in a professional and effective manner;
  • Must be able to use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines
  • Must be able to communicate professionally via computer programs such as Microsoft Outlook
  • Must be able to handle pressure of constantly working with individuals in crisis.

Spiritual Qualifications

  • Professes Jesus as Lord and Savior
  • Believes the Bible to be the inspired, infallible, & ultimate authoritative Word of God (II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:21)
  • Patterns life after the example of Jesus and the commands and principles found in the Bible
  • Desires to serve the Lord in the ministry of rescue
