Job Description

Employees will handle aircraft parts, tools and related hardware in receiving areas. Perform data entry and systems updating required to prepare and distribute material, parts, major aircraft assemblies and kits. Typical duties include examination and verification of paperwork accompanying freight, sorting and distribution, routing and unloading vehicles and containers. Operate riding type electric powered material moving devices. The physical demands and potential hazards described here are typical of those that may be encountered in this job. Eye, hearing, hand and foot protection, fall protection, as required. Requires frequent lifting up to 35 lbs. Frequent standing, reaching, handling, turning/twisting, lifting/lowering. May require bending, kneeling, crouching, squatting. Exposure to aluminum, steel, plastics, fiberglass, graphite composites. Exposure to radioactive signs, explosives, and other hazardous materials. Exposure to lubricants, solvents, wood splinters and saw dust. Use of potentially dangerous tools such as pneumatic nailguns and staplers, power saws, knives and band cutters. May require working from high places. Additional Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities: Move freight on conveyor belts, pallet stackers or carts into receiving areas from loading dock. Operate material handling equipment (e.g., riding type electric powered elevating equipment, overhead hoists) to move material, as required. Open shipping containers using knife, crow bar and/or hammer, as required. Unpack freight and shipping containers. Remove packing slip and compare to shipping label for part number, purchase order number and quantity. Verify the quantity of parts is correct. Make sure there is a bar-code label or other appropriate identifier for each carton in the order. Create an additional label, as required. Use computers to perform work functions and to obtain any other necessary information to process paperwork. Sort freight and route to appropriate areas (e.g., Quality Assurance, Functional Test, explosives cabinet, radiation cabinet). Provide information on details to give status and input on availability (e.g. missing, rejected, shortages) to area lead. Position completed work orders/work package in appropriate area for issuing/receiving, as required. Handle and dispose of hazardous materials using personal protective equipment as required. Maintain personal and tool certifications, as required.
