Job Description

The Aerospace Corporation has provided independent technical and scientific research, development, and advisory services to national security space programs since 1960. We operate a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC) for the United States Air Force and the National Reconnaissance Office and support all national security space programs. We also apply more than 50 years of experience with space systems to projects for civil agencies like NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, commercial companies, universities, and international organizations in the national interest.

  • Provide technical support and expertise in the areas of structural integrity and survivability of electronic components for launch vehicles and spacecraft considering shock, random vibration and thermal cycling environments.
  • Create finite-element models and execute analyses to investigate failures, verify margins, and provide rationale for design improvements.
  • Review and assess contractors' analyses and test plans.
  • Develop requirements for accelerated life tests.
  • Work with other experts in related technical disciplines on readiness review and anomaly resolution teams.
  • Document and communicate findings and recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science and two years experience required.
  • Advanced Degree in Engineering or Science highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of principles of structural mechanics, including analysis and testing of electronic units used on launch vehicle and spacecraft structures subject to shock, vibration, and thermal environments.
  • Some familiarity with finite-element analysis techniques and simulation tools (such as ABAQUS, NASTRAN, ANSYS) and computer aided design software (such as ABAQUS-CAE, I-DEAS, PATRAN) desired
  • Candidate must possess strong written and oral communications skills, ability to initiate and complete tasks, and interact effectively with a broad range of organizations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOD clearance.
