Collection, analysis, and presentation of research data for nutritional profiling of livestock and development of state-of-the-art Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy equations for livestock nutritional profiling and livestock feeds/fodders.Conduct new research or expand existing research to support NIRS development in the Grazingland Animal Nutrition Laboratory. Conduct data analysis and prepare publications for peer-reviewed journals.Work with Principal Investigators to develop study plans, proposals, statements of work, research briefs, presentations, and scientific publications. Work with Principal Investigators to coordinate and design studies to improve NIRS equations and to improve the state of knowledge for NIRS uses for livestock and rangeland applications.Develop protocols and methods for transfer of equations across different NIRS instrument platforms. Conduct quality control and error assessments of equation transfer performance.Operate and maintain Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy (NIRS) equipment in Grazingland Animal Nutrition Laboratory. Provide technical support and oversight for NIRS equipment and equation development in this laboratory and for collaborators in other countries (as grant funds allow).Provide advice to laboratory clientele and research collaborators on data interpretation and sample processing related to NIRS. Coordinate data collection for research activities and collaborations with other scientists or research centers. Maintain communication with project Principal Investigators to insure that project goals and objectives are being met.

Required Education and Experience:
Required Education: Ph.D. in Agriculture, Natural Resources, Biological Sciences or related field, or M.S. degree in the fields listed above with at least four years of related professional experience.Required Experience: Experience in a post-doctoral position or two years of related professional experience beyond the minimum qualifications. At least one year experience using Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy (NIRS) equipment and conducting NIRS equation development.Required Special Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:Familiarity with appropriate laboratory, farm and/or technical equipment. Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks as directed by the supervisor. Experience using standard word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and statistics software. Knowledge of and experience using Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy instrumentation and related software.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Preferred Education: Ph.D. in Animal, Range, or Forage Sciences.Preferred Experience: At least 4 years experience using Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy (NIRS) equipment and NIRS equation development. Knowledge of livestock, forages, and animal nutrition through relevant coursework and job experience.Preferred Special Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:Experience using Foss and/or Perten brand NIRS instruments. Experience using GRAMS AI, WinISI, and/or Unscrambler software packages. Knowledge of and experience with livestock nutrition management, especially ruminants.
