SUMMARY

Responsible for leading the development and implementation of external relations strategies and tactical plans to engage a variety of stakeholders aligned with the company’s business objectives. Provides counsel and training to company leadership, develops relationships with key journalists and serves on the crisis communications team. Acts with a high level of autonomy and manages projects of high complexity and high visibility to leadership and impact to the business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Consults with the business on communications needs, creates strategic communications plans and materials, addresses relevant audiences and ensures alignment of communications activities across the enterprise. Effectively drives implementation of plans, taking into consideration required resources.

2. Leads the development and implementation of proactive and reactive media relations strategies to ensure relevant and accurate coverage of the company. Serves as a company Spokesperson.

3. Ensures coverage and management of the Andeavor Media Line, including receiving, expediting and tracking inquiries and a member of the on-call team for emergencies or after-hours support. Supports Daily News Summary process, as needed.

4. Serves as a strategic partner to business leaders and management team on key issues of importance to external stakeholders.

5. Supports crisis teams with timely and strategic communications during planning, drills and/or actual incidents. Participates in Incident Command team.

6. Reviews corporate presentations and publications authorization requests. Supports speaking engagements through content development, planning and onsite event support.

7. Leads the development and implementation of the Annual & Social Responsibility Report on an annual basis.

8. Identifies and implements new and innovative strategies and tactics relevant to our business objectives and strategies.

9. Supports team development of skills related to area of expertise.

10. Leads measurement program in support of overall corporate communications goals.

11. Applies standards that promote continuity and consistency across the organization’s communications processes.

12. Participates or leads special projects related to area of expertise.

13. Direct, train, mentor, and review the work of others (including team members and/or 3rd party firms).

REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
• Minimum undergraduate degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English or related-field required.

EXPERIENCE
• Minimum 6 years of experience producing communications for a variety of channels and audiences in either corporate environment or leading public relations firm.

SPECIAL SKILLS:
• Excellent collaboration skills with the ability to build strong relationships and leverage resources from within the team, across other parts of the business and with external constituents to ensure complete and consistent messaging. Successful/comfortable interacting with both internal team members and agency/vendor partners.
• Demonstrated strength/success in working independently with wide variety of clients across all organization levels.
• Experience working in a multi-stakeholder role that involved integration of messages across various products/groups/channels.
• Demonstrated skills in leveraging media and social media engagement in support of business objectives.
• Demonstrated ability to present complex business ideas, strategies and results succinctly and persuasively.
• Thorough knowledge of communication techniques, methods, processes, and best practices. Knowledge of Associated Press style.
• Able to develop and manage production schedules and status reports for ongoing and project work.
• Highly self-motivated; thrives in fast-paced, changing environment. High-curiosity, eager to learn and understand technical subject matter/business.
• Very strong written, editorial, oral and presentation skills; quickly delivers compelling communications under pressure/multiple deadlines.
• Very organized with proven ability to create processes and programs that yield measureable results. Tracking and reporting progress is critical to this function.
