Key Accountabilities

  • Successfully and effectively follow all health, safety, security, environmental (HSSE) and operational practices and procedures
  • Perform vessel and barge tie-ups while standing by the vessel and barges alongside terminal berths
  • Pipeline line-ups including opening and closing of valves and starting and stopping of other devices and equipment
  • Gauging and sampling
  • Conduct housekeeping and all other duties defined for this role
  • Be motivated and accountable for achieving long-term and day- to-day goals and tasks
  • Effectively manage time and resources and ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously
  • Utilize MAXIMO, VTA, MS Office and other applications
  • Proper completion of required forms and accurate documentation are essential
  • Successfully complete all training requirements outlined in the marine terminal operator’s curriculum through Operator “A”.
  • Ability to drive a pick-up or similar on and off road and drive to multiple locations along the pipeline
  • Other duties as assigned
  • The job requires some travel
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed but not limited to eye/face protection, flame retardant clothing (FRC), foot protection, gloves, hearing protection, head protection, etc.
  • Work nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as necessary and is subject to call-outs
  • including response to emergency situations
  • Be a self-starter and have the ability to work independently without supervision
  • Good oral/written communication skills and communicate effectively with all levels both
  • internally and externally
  • Work effectively on diverse teams
  • Effectively demonstrate and transfer work

Essential experience and job requirements

  • A valid drivers license is required; Driving safety is mandatory at all times and a condition of employment in accordance with BP Pipelines’ Vehicle Safety Policy
  • The successful candidate will exhibit safe work practices.
  • Basic computer skills (including Microsoft Office).
  • Ability to be on call 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week and work 12 hour shifts.
  • Ability to climb stars and/or ladders up to 50 feet as required by the job.
  • Have strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Problem solve, overcome obstacles and make good decisions.
  • The successful candidate must be committed to learning new skills and complete the Skills Development Training Program training required for the assigned job classification level.
  • The candidate will be required to be a fully qualified Operator “B” in 24 months and a fully qualified Operator “A” in 36 months.
  • Successful candidate must obtain a US TWIC card within 3 months of placement in this role.
