Summary
This position executes trades for natural gas (NG) primarily for the Company’s NG physical requirements and associated pipeline arrangements; and utilizes physical and financial trading to support refinery operations, manage budget exposures, and identify and capture market opportunities.
Responsibilites
- Develop and manage NG trading book within established risk limits to meet gain and loss targets. Creates positions to capture synergies across multiple requirements and capitalize on market opportunities.
- Coordinates with Commercial Operations to monitor product scheduling, pipeline movements and associated balancing activities.
- Identifies and implements pipeline transport and storage arrangements to increase value of trading activities.
- Interfaces with refinery staff and System Optimization to match supply to requirements.
- Cultivates and sustains relationships with producers and trading companies.
- Develops and maintains NG market intelligence. Forecasts conditions impacting local markets and pipelines, competitors, supply and demand, prices, and transportation and distribution costs.
- Identifies, develops and executes opportunities to improve economic synergies among various locations. Recommends business development activities.
Requirements - Minimum Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum 2 years of NG trading experience, 5 years overall NG experience between trading, scheduling, and analytics
- Strong preference for knowledge of California NG markets.
- Knowledge and compliance of trading regulations and policies
- Ability to initiate trading activities, develop solutions to trading problems, and meet performance goals
- Knowledge of trading book economics, price risk, and application in models
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment; with a high level of accuracy and within tight deadlines
- Understanding of NG market fundamentals, basis, and market risk
- Ability to prioritize work assignments
- Strong negotiation skills and oral and written communication skills
- Ability to develop and build market relationships
- Understanding of analytical techniques in model development
- Ability to understand deal flow across multiple functions
