Responsible for providing ongoing materials management support for the refining and/or logistics operations to which they are assigned, including terminals and pipeline inventories in various warehouse locations across the US as applicable. This position will also seek to identify and manage improvement projects such as asset recovery programs, consignment programs, vendor managed inventory, etc. to ensure high caliber customer service while optimizing overall operating costs. In addition, this position will be a key contributor in policy and procedure development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises a team of materials management professionals which may include Warehouse Supervisors, Leads, and hourly material handlers, as well as MRP Buyer/Planners
  • Ensures consistent adherence to company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Manages the optimization of Tesoro warehouse operations in our refineries and logistics locations in collaboration with business unit leadership
  • Ensures proper collaboration between the MRP buyer/planner(s) and Maintenance Operations, Project Managers and appropriate Operations functions to deliver effective stock material planning and rationalized inventories
  • Manages buyer/planner(s) procurement activities to ensure timely processing of material requisitions, adherence to contract terms and conditions, as well as effective collaboration with suppliers, end users, and warehouse personnel.
  • Identifies, develops and implements continuous improvement projects focused on opportunities such as improved demand/supply planning, overstock reduction, kitting, consignment, outsourcing, and consolidation
  • Collaborates with Reliability Engineers, Plant Maintenance, and other subject matter experts as required to align spare parts inventory to machinery Bills of Material
  • Works to establish and participates on the Material Review Board(s) to continually review and determine appropriate disposition of surplus and obsolete inventory
  • Collaborates with the Asset Recovery Specialist and Supply Chain Operations to optimize financial benefits from the sale of obsolete or overstocked items
  • Aligns closely with Major Projects and Project Procurement functions to ensure timely and appropriate surplus inventory disposition after project close-out
  • Collaborates with the Finance organization on inventory financial matters including potential tax impacts to inventory, inventory valuation, and write-downs
  • Environmental stewardship – In collaboration with EHS&S group, develops and maintains programs designed to reduce negative environmental impacts through continual reduction of solid waste in the warehouse and ensures safe, compliant disposition of surplus in accordance with environmental regulatory standards.
  • Responsible for the development and day-to-day management of warehouse budget(s)
  • Responsible for driving the development, implementation, and reporting of local organizational performance metrics


  • Minimum undergraduate degree in Business, Engineering or Supply Chain or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 8 years combined experience in Management of Warehouse Operations, Procurement, Material Planning and/or Supply Chain Management with progressively increasing responsibilities
  • Minimum 3 years managing or leading teams
  • Minimum 2 years SAP MM preferred
  • APICS, CPIM, CSCP, or C.P.M. certification preferred
  • LSS Certification - minimum green belt
