Job Description

BackgroundInternal Audit (IA) is required by the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and functions as a service to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors, management, and the external auditors. It is a significant part of the entity level control function for monitoring. It has been and increasingly continues to be an advisor to management on how to identify internal control weaknesses and balance internal controls across the business. Internal audits identify needs for improvement in internal controls. This requires staff trained in various disciplines.The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOx) established significant new requirements for management documentation, assessment, remediation, and reporting of internal controls. As a part of SOx, management is required annually to both (1) evaluate the design, and, (2) assess the operating effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting while maintaining sufficient separation of duties between the functions involved in meeting these requirements. Internal Audit accepted the responsibility for completing the annual SOx 404 assessments of operating effectiveness of internal controls beginning in 2004. Internal Audit continues to accept the responsibility to audit and/or assess financial, operational, and information technology (IT) internal controls each year according to the annual Internal Audit Plan.SummaryThe Global Internal Audit Intern will assist in evaluating existing internal control documentation, testing current processes and procedures, performing substantive testing of financial transactions, and providing recommendations. The mission of the Global Internal Audit Activity at Tempur Sealy International, Inc. is to provide independent, reasonable objective assurance and consulting services designed to add value and improve the company's operations. The Global Internal Audit Intern is expected to constructively work with the Finance and other departments to improve internal controls and processes across the company.Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Assist in assessing the operating effectiveness, efficiency, and accuracy of records for financial and operational internal controls
* Audit records of the company, its subsidiaries, and departments to ensure effective and efficient controls and compliance with applicable agreements, laws and regulations
* Assist in interviewing individuals in various financial and operational positions regarding day-to-day duties and controls
* Document processes and controls in a consistent format
* Test compliance with company policies and procedures
* Assist with all aspects of an audit project including: planning and risk assessment, audit test work, documentation, and audit wrap up
* Recommend process and policy improvements
* Follow up to ensure that approved recommendations are implemented
* Travel to manufacturing plants or finance offices to perform audit procedures (we will work around the employee's school schedule)
* All other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience

Accounting major with a GPA of 3.2 or higher who is available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week while attending classes; 40 hours per week during breaks.
