KSDK, 5 On Your Side is looking for a conscientious, motivated, experienced newsroom leader to manage the administrative aspects of our busy and growing newsroom.

This person will have oversight over the many parts of our news operation that involve staffing, budgets, overtime, travel and training.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Oversees scheduling and daily staffing updates for all news products, in consultation with news managers. Leads yearly vacation selection process for unions. Requires thorough knowledge of IBEW and AFTRA labor agreements.
* Works closely with Dir. of Content and all news managers on recruiting of news staff. Includes diversity outreach, candidate screening, reference checks, studio auditions.
* Coordinates yearly performance review process.
* Ensures smooth onboarding of new employees and current employees transferring to new positions.
* Works closely with TEGNA HR to make sure protocols are followed.
* Supervises interns, including selection and intern experience.
* Coordinates training of staff.
* Audits time cards and keycard records to track errors and tardiness.
* Monitors spending and payroll expenses in newsroom. Follows up on monthly budget variances to bring overages back in line.
* Seeks most cost-effective vendors to deliver newsroom services.
* Manages newsroom seating assignments. Leads newsroom committee. charged with designing more efficient use of furniture and space.
* Oversees school closings crawl.
* Collects information on news coverage for FCC ascertainment reporting.
* Coordinates talent visits with wardrobe and performance consultants.
* Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

* College degree.
* News management experience required.
* Must possess solid news judgment, display strong communication skills, creativity, and ethical decision-making skill.s
* Strong writing and organization skills.
* Must be able to calmly handle live news situations and changing events.
* A sense of humor, a plus!
