We are looking to recruit a Researcher to plan, carry out and report on research investigations in the area of Environmental Science and Technology at our Swinden Technology Centre based in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. You will have a clearly defined leading role in research investigations carried out in the fields of specialised chemical analysis and environmental research.


Working under the Section Leader, you will participate in and carry out agreed research investigations ensuring that findings are valid and accurate, to provide technical data to fulfil the requirements of the business programme. You will analyse and interpret the results of research investigations to provide appropriate information in the form of Technical Notes and Draft Reports to assist in reaching correct conclusions and making practical recommendations to customers. Communicating with other Technical/Management staff both internal and external to Tata Steel, you will gather information and expertise relevant to the research investigation being undertaken as well as advise on any topic within your area of expertise. You will be required to keep abreast of technical developments and initiate new projects or suggest alterations to existing projects to meet the requirements of agreed research programmes. You will also train subordinates to ensure work is carried out efficiently and accurately as well as be responsible for your own continual development of technical expertise in Environmental Science and Technology to ensure the best possible contribution to the overall technical performance of the Technology Centre.


We are looking for an individual with knowledge or relevant research experience in analytical chemistry and the steel or related industry. You will be educated to degree level or equivalent in in Chemistry, Materials Science or other appropriate technical discipline in addition to previous experience of Specialised Technology Centre and Technological Techniques Training. Communication, presentation and management skills are essential, as well as team working skills and a commitment to health & safety.

A full UK driving licence is essential as well as a willingness to travel to other sites.
