: A Staff Scientist position is available in the Antibody and Protein Engineering group for the discovery and optimization of therapeutic Antibodies. The chosen individual will be responsible for the design and execution of antibody library screening, lead antibody selection and for the expression and characterization of selected therapeutic phage antibodies against disease-specific targets. To meet drug design goals, the selected Staff Scientist will design and perform optimization of the therapeutic lead antibody by humanization, affinity maturation, and modification of further functional properties. The candidate will have strong expertise in antibody development technologies, molecular biology and protein chemistry and will have excellent organizational and communication skills and ability to work effectively in a highly cross-functional environment. Significant hands-on protein/antibody engineering experience using in vitro display system is essential. ACCOUNTABILITIES: · Design and execute screening campaigns for therapeutic antibodies against disease targets using the antibody phage display platform. · Optimize identified phage antibodies towards their desired drug like properties by affinity maturation, humanization and optimization of their functional properties · Direct experiments with high throughput automated platforms and data management systems. · Troubleshoot and resolve complex problems in an analytical and effective manner; actively scout for innovation of existing processes and technologies in order to maintain a competitive and of state of the art antibody discovery platform. · Perform high-throughput DNA sequence analysis. · Make detailed observations, compile and summarize complex and large data sets, prepare reports, and present conclusions at group, departmental, and project team meetings. · Work independently with minimal supervision. · Function as a role model of collaboration, mentoring, providing technical expertise and knowledge sharing in a highly cross-functional environment · Maintain familiarity with current scientific literature, contribute to scientific journal publications and attend/present abstracts at scientific meetings. · Supervision of junior group members may be required. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: · PhD in Molecular Biology, Protein Engineering, or related field with 2+ years of postdoctoral and/or industry experience in the relevant field. · Extensive skills in antibody discovery and optimization technologies, molecular biology and protein engineering methods/best practices and applications. · Experience with antibody phage display strongly desired but not required. · Extensive use of scientific databases and applications for data management and data analysis, including, but not limited to, DNA high throughput sequence analysis of antibody genes. · Hand-on expertise with automated platform technologies. · Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: · None required PHYSICAL DEMANDS: · Manual dexterity required to operate standard laboratory equipment (i.e., pipette, detector, etc.). · Carrying, handling and reaching for objects up to 25 lbs. · Exposure to biologicals and research animals. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: · Ability to drive to or fly to various meetings or client sites, including overnight trips. Requires no more than 5% travel.
