Job Description


T.Y. Lin International's Charleston office is looking to add a Group Leader of Mechanical Engineering to join our team.


* Responsible for group leadership, project management and the design of various major and minor Mechanical systems and Infrastructure
* Develops proposals, scopes of work and budgets for mechanical projects and assists in marketing existing and potential clients.
* Design and develop HVAC, plumbing, piping and utilities systems for Federal, Industrial, Commercial, Institutional (K-12 to Higher Education), Data centers and other related type projects.
* Coordinates the work of the mechanical team through the design development and contract document phases of a project.
* Establishes meetings and participates in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance.
* Production of contract documents including plans and specifications
* Performs heating/cooling calculations in Carrier HAP or Trane Trace
* Performs system sizing calculations
* Performs review of calculations, drawings, and specifications
* Prepares contract drawings and specifications, construction and design cost estimates, and technical reports.
* Provide technical direction and career development to staff
* Responsible for workload coordination through design development and construction document phases to complete the documents on schedule.
* Collaborate with other TY Lin offices on workload and design knowledge.
* Works and communicates well with client
* Works with experienced multi-discipline project teams (to include Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire Protection) to develop mechanical design and analysis
* Works as part of the project team to complete large or complex tasks
* Mentors and trains entry-level mechanical engineers
* Assists in the development of proposals and responses to RFPs
* Interacts with end-users, clients, contractors, equipment owner, and owner's agent to encourage new leads for business development
* Participates in area industry events for business development


Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and PE registration required. Minimum 10 years' experience working with Mechanical and HVAC Systems (senior level desired). Skilled in AutoCAD and Revit experience highly desired. Proficiency in the design of mechanical systems for various building types. Strong knowledge of design of HVAC systems. Understanding of roles and responsibilities and interface. Requirements of each design discipline. Knowledge and understanding of national federal code and local mechanical and energy codes. Ability to read and understand P&IDs, control strategies, and the development of control schematics based upon these documents. Ability to work with multi-discipline project teams. Ability to make basic technical decisions regarding analysis and detailing. Ability to work independently to effectively complete routine tasks. Strong verbal and written communications skills that are well organized.
