Job Description

Lead and manage all functions within the Foundry including Core Room, Casting cells, Robotic & manual cut-off saws, and inventory/warehouse. Responsible for the direct supervision of all foundry hourly employees, production equipment, safety, productivity, quality and scrap.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead and direct the department workforce to perform work safely thru personal involvement on the shop floor. (30%)

  • Utilize company safety guidelines and resources.
  • Involve engineering, general manager or others when safety issues cannot be resolved within the department.
  • Enforce safety related discipline if/when required to correct operator non-compliance.

Promote quality production in all areas of Core Room, Casting & Saws (20%)

  • Monitor production equipment, operator check sheets, and all other parts of the quality system. Enforce required quality checks performed by department operators.
  • Resolve quality problems thru collaboration with the Quality, Tool Room, Engineering, Maintenance or other departments.

Promote timely production of parts per the Kanban system. (20%)

  • Schedule resources (people and equipment) to support customer demand.
  • Utilize overtime strategically when and where needed, but do not create an environment of routine overtime work.

Ensure a high level of productivity (20%)

  • Monitor individual and shift outcomes; take corrective action where levels are not achieved.
  • Assist operators in the solution of production bottle-necks.
  • Involve maintenance employees (or outside services) to fix broken equipment and perform preventative maintenance.
  • Schedule and manage work hours for maximum productivity.

Manage costs within department (5%)

  • Coordinate purchasing of tools & equipment with engineering.
  • Manage MRO items

All other duties as assigned (5%

 QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • 3+ years manufacturing supervisory experience
  • 3+ years process equipment management

Preferred:

  • Non-ferrous casting knowledge/experience
  • Low pressure, permanent casting experience
  • Kanban/pull system experience
  • Core Room experience
  • Associate or Bachelor Degree in technical field

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write correspondence and technical documentation
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

  • Use math skills including algebra.

REASONING ABILITIES

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situation
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or scheduled form
