Associate - Corporate Banking - Chicago, IL-W439648


SunTrust Robinson Humphrey ("STRH"), the full-service corporate and investment banking arm of SunTrust Banks, Inc. (NYSE: STI), offers its corporate, institutional, and wealth management clients a number of integrated services, including debt and equity capital raising, strategic advisory services and financial risk management, as well as equity and fixed income research, sales, and trading. This position is located in Chicago, IL and supports the Midwest Corporate Banking Group. You would be part of a 10-person client coverage team that works with diversified, mid-to-large capitalization companies across an 11 state region throughout the Midwest and includes 10 of the top 50 MSAs in the country.

Associates support prospecting, idea generation, structuring and transaction execution activities for corporate banking relationships. Associates develop the experience to function as the second or third person in a relationship team for financing, advisory and other banking and capital markets idea generation and pitch activity, as well as transaction execution.

Corporate Banking Associates play a critical role on the team, and work closely with senior corporate banking professionals to help drive the growth of the business. Associates must demonstrate a mastery of financial and accounting concepts to facilitate the creation and review of in-depth financial models involved in transactions. Under limited supervision, Associates are charged with drafting internal and external documents and marketing materials utilized in transactions and often take a lead role in executing transactions while working with clients, attorneys, investors and other senior professionals on a daily basis. They will coach and mentor Analysts/Interns and build cross functional relationships within STRH. As a result, strong organizational, communication and leadership skills are necessary to be effective in the position.


-BA/BS from a leading program; concentration in Finance or MBA preferred

-Minimum of 4 years work experience required

-Previous background in financial services, capital markets and/or experience as an Analyst

-Ability to understand complex financial products and desire for significant transaction execution responsibility

-Proven analytical ability and attention to detail

-Intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm for financial matters especially capital formation, balance sheet and risk management

-Strong organizational, leadership and interpersonal skills

-Superior written and oral communication skills

-Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment


Basic Requirements:

• BA/BS degree
• 4 years of related work experience
• Strong knowledge of Corporate Banking, market, industry sector, and/or financial products
• Mastery of financial and accounting concepts to facilitate the creation or review of in-depth financial models involved in transactions
• Strong organizational and leadership skills
• Advanced skills in written and oral communications, and interpersonal relationship management
• Solid analytical and sales skills

Preferred Requirements:

• MBA degree, with a Finance focus
• 6 years of related work experience
