Job Description

The Human Resources internship is designed to be both educational and provide practical experience in a variety of HR functions. In this position, the intern will gain a better understanding of the role that Human Resources plays in an organization and be better prepared to work in a Human Resources department. The candidate will also have opportunities to network with other functional areas of a Performing Arts Center such as Finance, Arts Education, Theatrical Production, Development, Marketing, and Food & Beverage.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

* Participate as part of the HR team on a variety of projects and employment support functions.
* Follow employment law and compliance regarding employment eligibility, confidentiality, proper maintenance of employee files, and forms management.
* Prepare new hire packets and assist with recruiting and new hire orientation.
* Update the Standard Operating Procedures by researching current processes and making necessary changes to documentation.
* Learn the interrelationship of HR and Finance in the areas of new employee paperwork, payroll issues related to onboarding and termination, use of a payroll management database, compliance, benefits administration, and report generation.
* Assist with cleaning current payroll data and preparing for a possible payroll conversion to a new vendor.
* Assist with setting up various HR modules (Performance Management, Applicant Tracking, Benefits Administration, etc.) on the HRIS system.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

* Interest in some facet of the Human Resources field. (Recruiting, Employee Relations, Benefits, Safety/Wellness, etc.)
* Ability to appropriately manage information of a highly confidential nature.
* Strong written and oral communication skills.
* Good time management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, changing environment.
* Proficiency with the Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Hours of availability: M-F (9-5)

This is an unpaid internship.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this internship, the intern is regularly required to sit and use the telephone. The intern is frequently required to walk or stand; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The intern is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
