Steamboat Springs School District is seeking:

Route Bus Driver (Full benefit position) Job Summary: 

Drivers must meet all Federal, State and local requirements and maintain professional driving standards at all times; Provide safe and efficient transportation for Elementary, Middle and High school students, including students with special needs to and from school as well as off campus related activities. Obey all traffic laws; Practice defensive driving techniques at all times; Adhere to authorized routes; Maintain discipline when students are on the vehicle to ensure safety of all passengers; Adhere to and report for duty as schedule requires, to be ready before scheduled route time of departure; Clean bus interior and exterior on regular basis; Ability to work well with students, district staff and parents and conduct oneself in a professional manner.

Substitute Bus Drivers Description:

  • Driver must obey all traffic laws; practice defensive driving techniques at all times;
  • make daily pre-trip inspections a required by law;
  • report all vehicle defects immediately and complete appropriate paperwork;
  • adhere to authotized routes; load and unload students only at authorized stops;
  • maintain discipline when students are on the vehicle;
  • report for duty 15 minutes before schedules route time of departure;
  • transport only authorized students and/or authorized school district emplyees with prior authorization;
  • clean bus interior at the end of each working day;
  • perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation

Lead Mechanic - Transpiration Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for establishing an efficient and effective system of routine preventive maintenance and care for all school vehicles and equipment, including diagnosis, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and repairs; develop bus maintenance programs.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with transportation staff, administrators and users.
  • Demonstrate the commitment to build and maintain a safe, fair and respectful working and learning environment that honors the cultural diversity of students and staff.
  • Assist the Transportation Manager in the development and maintenance of the fleet maintenance budget; assist in the development of bus/vehicle bid specifications.
  • Maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment as required; maintain shop equipment in good working order; research, order and restock parts and shop supplies; clean and maintain parts shelves and bins. Gather bids for shop equipment and supplies; communicate with vendors regarding parts pricing and warranties.
  • Complete all vehicle maintenance records and documents to comply with Federal and State regulations; conduct CDE annual safety inspections of all district pupil transportation vehicles.
  • Assure that the district shop, vehicles and equipment meet or exceed Federal and State standards, including but not limited to OSHA, DOT, EPA, and CDE.
  • Oversee the safe disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Perform welding and machine work incidental to the completion of repair work.
  • Assist Driver Trainers with mechanical input.
  • Assist with Activity transportation schedule needs and on call for issues that may arise with activity busses
  • Attend safety meetings, workshops and training classes as directed in order to keep abreast of new vehicle technology and regulations. Manage Safety activities in repair shop settings including the appropriate use and maintaining stock of Personal Protective Equipment
  • Assist in accident investigation; make recommendations for accident prevention.
  • Respond to emergency calls and off-hour emergencies; determine the nature of the problem and complete necessary repairs.
  • Prioritize and assign work orders to Mechanic and supervise repairs made by subordinates.
  • Ability to follow directions and work professionally and respectfully with other district employees
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organized shop; perform all duties in a safe manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Drive school bus routes as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required by the Transportation Manager.
