Soda Creek Elementary Principal Coaches

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supervises the development of the educational program at the elementary school level and coordinates the program(s) with the other levels to create an effective, coherent PK-12 curriculum; submits any suggested curricular changes to the Director of Teaching and Learning for review and approval by the Superintendent.
  • Works cooperatively with the staff for the best interest of all students: organizes the total school program, plans staff meetings, appoints committees, and assigns teacher to their various duties within limits of Board and Administrative policy.
  • Serves as the instructional leader for the elementary school and preschool.
  • Coordinates the efforts of teachers, parents and special team members in working with students in meeting individual needs.
  • Provides for an educational environment that permits and encourages creativity in the learning process.
  • Coordinates with the BOCES Director of Special Education to insure proper support for students with special needs.
  • Supervises Special Education Programs in cooperation with the BOCES Director of Special Education.
  • Approves all modifications to standard educational programs for individual students.
  • Supervises the registration, placement, evaluation and progress reporting of students.
  • Maintains good public relations with the community through parent groups, press releases, newsletters and community projects.
  • Handles in a cordial manner, complaints affecting the school and reports to the Superintendent any matter of a serious nature, especially those matters not satisfactorily settled.
  • Plans and facilitates the orientation and training of teachers to school and District
  • Works with teachers to improve instructional techniques.
  • Responsible for the evaluation of staff according to established criteria and district policy, including regular observation, feedback, curriculum discussions, etc.
  • Makes recommendations to the Superintendent for selection, continued employment, dismissal of personnel under his/her direction.
  • Conducts a continuous program of supervision of classroom instruction to insure implementation of the district curriculum; and makes recommendations for in-service training for teachers in the building.
  • Coordinates and monitors schedules for all subject areas and all activities to insure implementation of district curriculum.
  • Submits for approval all requests by staff to attend meetings or functions, which necessitate absence from school.
  • Reviews district-wide budgetary processes and coordinates the preparation of the budgets for the elementary school; Submits reports to the Superintendent and Central Office as requested;.
  • Determines staff assignments within the parameters of district policy and staffing guidelines.
  • Implement District approved and appropriate accounting system for all funds handled through the offices and makes periodic reports as requested by the Director of Finance and Operations.
  • Supervises the custodians in their daily care and maintenance of the building.
  • Develops school procedures and programs to ensure a safe learning environment.
  • Responsible for general student discipline of the school, shall have authority to suspend students as provided by the laws of the State of Colorado; such suspensions should be reported to the Superintendent
  • Implements district policy and procedures, and interpret policy and procedures for building personnel and students.
  • Responsible for securing substitute teachers and other staff from an approved list.
  • Exercises decisive leadership in crisis situations.
  • Works with the Director of Technology and Program Evaluation to evaluate curricular and co-curricular programs
  • Remains current about changes and developments in the field of education
  • Participates in Administrative Team and Curriculum and Instruction meetings
  • Provides leadership for the implementation of the district-wide strategic plan.
  • Provides leadership and direction for the development and implementation of the building-level improvement plan that aligns to the district-wide plan
  • Uses data to assess student growth and school improvement.
  • Provides counsel and advice to the Superintendent
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Possess or is eligible for a Colorado Type D Administrator Certificate or Administrator License.
  • Minimum 2 year previous Administrative experience required
  • Minimum of five years of successful experience as a teacher.
  • Knowledge and experience in curriculum development and implementing effective instructional strategies.
  • Knowledge of school business and finance.
  • Trained in personnel supervision and performance evaluation.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Essential Job Functions:

Decision Making:  An example of a typical decision made by an individual in this position is to interpret policies/procedures and best practice.  An incorrect decision made by this position could impact the district legally causing financial condition of district to be effected. Errors made in decision-making could potentially result in substantial cost to the District or damage the credibility of the District.Language Skills:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond professionally to questions from groups of parents, community members, commissions, colleagues and Board of Education.

Mathematical Skills:  bility to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, discounts, commissions, proportions, percentage, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, and geometry

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract concrete variables. Ability to analyze and use data to supervise the delivery of instruction and the school improvement process

Technology Skills:  Proficient use of technology which includes: basic operations and concepts, word processing, spreadsheets, internet usage, critical evaluation of information, data analysis, email, integration of technology.

Other Skills And Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in education. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to copy coordinates, instructs, evaluate and negotiate. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Ability to discipline students consistent with district procedures. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear.  The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; kneel; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. Occasionally push and assist disabled students. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Continued and regular use of computer, keyboarding, phone, cell phone and other technology for communications.
