Job Description

These positions will perform progressively more difficult structural hydraulic design engineering duties under close supervision, progressing to limited supervision over time. This position is responsible for assisting with providing technical guidance in the areas of hydraulics, hydrology, and preparation of preliminary design and plans. The Structural & Hydraulic Design Engineer position requires a background in hydrology and hydraulic analysis and design.

Extensive training in the Bureau will be provided to this position.

Upon hire, candidate must have graduated, or will be graduating by December 2018, from a recognized college or university with a 4-year degree (or Master's or Ph.D.) in civil engineering or a related engineering field, OR, possess a PE (Registration as a Professional Engineer), OR, possess an EIT (Engineer-In-Training) license.

A qualified candidate will have experience in the following areas:

A minimum of four hydrology and/or hydraulic engineering courses, and/or applicable work experience, are required to be considered for this position.

General knowledge of engineering principles and practices related to the various transportation programs listed above

- Reading & math comprehension

- Effective verbal and written communication skills

- Effective organizational skills

- Analytical and problem solving skills and techniques

- Interpersonal communication skills

- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment

- Conflict resolution and negotiation skills
