Job Description

Teaching The faculty member shares a deep commitment to effective instruction, creation of innovative courses and mentoring of students in research, outreach and professional development related to the core. They demonstrate leadership in developing techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests, especially in the context of multidisciplinary or experiential teaching. The faculty will have teaching responsibilities in one of the two doctoral programs: Social and Behavioral Sciences or Healthcare Policy and Research programs. Potential curriculum content areas include health disparities, community engaged research, intervention research, research design, statistical analysis, health economics, health policy and program evaluation. Research Faculty engage in research and develop interdisciplinary collaborations in support of the core mission. Experience in health disparities research in cancer required. The faculty contributes to VCU's national reputation through research and scholarship (extramural funding, high quality publications, citations, and national recognition as through honorific awards and committee leadership) and maintains active involvement in appropriate national or international organizations and bodies. The incumbent would work in partnership with the associate director for disparities research at the Massey Cancer Center and other MCC leaders to address cancer disparities within the greater Richmond area. Service and Leadership Faculty member will serve on departmental, College, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, e.g., reviewer, conference organizer, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

* A strong desire to engage in collaborative, translational, team science * PhD in a job-related field, such as applied behavioral sciences, health behavior, health policy, social behavioral health, epidemiology, or public health * Demonstrated experience working in and with a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU * Interest and expertise in health disparities amount cancer patients. * Strong methodological and analytical skills * An academic record likely to produce success in the School of Medicine, to include a clear potential for external funding and scholarship which complements and expands existing expertise in the core and School

Preferred Qualifications

* Experiential learning through lived experiences and/or professional service that inform worldviews and/or perspectives about minority group status, to include race, age, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion, and disability * Experience or expertise in any of the following areas: health disparities research, research methods for behavior-oriented studies, team science, interdisciplinary collaboration, working with ethnic minority communities, community engaged research, organization-focused health policy analysis, schools, and local government * Teaching experience * Two years of postdoctoral experience. * Extramural funding

Special Requirements

This position is a tenure-eligible faculty position in the area of rigorous use of mixed methods to reduce health disparities to support the Ph.D. program at VCU in Health Behavior and Policy. The faculty member should have interdisciplinary research interests that complement and expand existing expertise. Research areas of particular interest include (but are not limited to) investigation of the diverse causes of and solutions to health disparities, obesity, nicotine dependency, psychometrics and research design as they relate to patient-centered outcomes in cancer and/or other chronic diseases. The faculty member will also support the department with teaching responsibilities at the graduate level.
