Job Description

VT MEMS Lab is looking for a microfabrication Process (semiconductor manufacturing) technician or engineer to add to its team of exceptional talent. The candidate will work both independently and with other team members including postdoctoral associates and graduate students to design and fabricate a variety of MEMS and microfluidic chips. Candidates must have at least an associate degree in engineering and should have work experience in a cleanroom environment. The ideal candidate should have experience in silicon and glass processing, photolithography, various thin film deposition (PECVD, e-beam evaporation, ALD) and dry/wet etching techniques, deep reactive ion etching, wafer level bonding, bulk and surface micromachining techniques, soft lithography, and layout design. VT MEMS Laboratory (www.agah-lab.org), directed by Dr. Masoud Agah, occupies a total space of approximately 1600sqft, 400sqft of which is BSL-2. The research focuses on chip development and system integration for chem/bio detection. Design, performance evaluation, and integration of the chips within functional systems are accomplished at VT MEMS Lab but the microfabrication is performed primarily at Virginia Tech's Micron Semiconductor Fabrication Laboratory, which is a university cost center. Duties and Responsibilities: - Work on process design and layout design - Train students for cleanroom fabrication and work on chip design and fabrication as needed - Create and maintain necessary computer databases - Should evaluate the fabrication processes and chip performances as instructed - Assist in preparation for professional presentations, reports, and publications - Take charge as instructed in keeping the lab organized

Minimum Qualifications

The MEMS Technical Staff member: - Must have at least an associate degree in engineering (BS/MS degree is preferred) - Semiconductor or MEMS fabrication experience - Must have excellent wafer handling skills - Possess knowledge about bulk and surface micromachining techniques - Ability to work in a dynamic transdisciplinary environment - Possess strong communication skills - Ability to work in both cleanroom and office environments - Ability to work on process design and layout design
