Virginia Tech is seeking accomplished and strategic human resources professionals to serve the critically important role of Division Director of Human Resources for Student Affairs. Virginia Tech is implementing a new human resources service delivery model that includes imbedded professionals to lead the HR practice. This position reports jointly to the Vice President of Human Resources and the Assistant Vice President for Operations and Administration within Student Affairs. The Director will be responsible for advancing the strategic priorities of workforce development and diversifying the workforce in student affairs. Specific responsibilities include oversight of Student Affairs recruiting, hiring and onboarding activities, training programs, performance management, compensation strategies, employee relations, workforce planning and staffing assessment, diversity and inclusion recruiting, retention planning, and succession planning. To carry out these responsibilities, the Director will be expected to be a strategic thinker and consultant who understands the critical importance of planning and program delivery and who is able to successfully balance competing values and align recommendations and actions with the division and University strategy. Success of this position will rely a great deal on being aware of the culture and environment of Student Affairs, the university, and human resources, by developing strong relationships across campus and fostering respectful communications and collaborations within a diverse community. Given the joint reporting relationship, the position must manage potentially conflicting interests, utilize strong organizational skills, plan and schedule individual work and team work, set priorities, have a collaborative and flexible decision-making style, and manage multiple projects and deadlines. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record in building strong relationships with a diverse group of individuals within a collaborative and collegial environment. Student Affairs at Virginia Tech employs approximately 1200 faculty and staff and 2500 undergraduate and graduate students. We are made up of nearly 25 departments including, but not limited to: housing and residence life, dining services, student conduct, health and counseling centers, student engagement and campus life, cultural centers, dean of students, assessment and professional development, and communications and information technology.

Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree with significant related experience in Human Resources. * Recent progressive and consultative HR experience in a complex organization, including experience: ? Providing forward-facing strategic recommendations. ? Working with senior leadership. ? Managing people and projects in direct and indirect supervisory role. * Increasing levels of responsibility to include a broad HR Generalist background with experience in multiple disciplines such as talent acquisition, talent management, talent development, performance management, compensation, and more. * Experience working in fast-paced, team-oriented environment with quickly shifting priorities. * Demonstrated excellence in communication and strong listening skills. * Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated high emotional intelligence. * Strong customer service orientation and sense of integrity. * Capacity to deal with a wide range of employee relationships and situations, including wage, staff, research faculty, administrative and professional faculty and tenure, tenure-track faculty. * Ability to maintain discretion and the highest ethical and professional standards while dealing with confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications

* Master's degree in business, human resources, or other related discipline. * Significant and increasing levels of HR responsibility within higher education. * Direct experience and demonstrated leadership in one or more human resources networks (e.g. CUPA-HR, SHRM) and working with Student Affairs. * Supervisory or management level experience delivering HR services.
