Classification: Work Ability Intern

The Utah State Office of Rehabilitation (USOR), a Division of the Department of Workforce Services (DWS), is seeking a motivated individual with a disability to fill a 16-week, paid internship in its Business Relations Office. The Business Relations Office is the premier government entity focused on providing Utah businesses with broad employment supports in the recruitment, hiring, retention and promotion of individuals with disabilities.

The successful applicant will participate in day-to-day office activities including:

* Assist with outreach activities to businesses.
* Assist with ongoing communications and upcoming presentations.
* Attend committee meetings.
* Address additional business related demands as they arise.

This opportunity is available to individuals with disabilities through the State of Utah's Work Ability Internship (WAI) Program. To be considered for this opportunity, applicants will need to provide documentation of their disability to the Human Resource's WAI Coordinator. Adequate documentation includes:

* SSDI or SSI documentation.
* Veterans Administration Certification.
* Letter from a licensed Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor.
* Department of Human Resource Management form letter signed by a physician.

All documentation that determines the nature and extent of a disability will be kept secure and confidential and be maintained by the WAI Coordinator in the Department of Human Resource Management (DHRM) Administration office.

Principle Duties

* Assist with job orders sharing through email system.
* Assist with social media outreach.
* Assist with business database entries.
* Provide support in planning and conducting events with business partners.
* Assist with preparation and set-up for employer events and activities.
* Provide training and presentations to businesses addressing disability related issues.
* Assist with distributing information at community events, conferences, career fairs and other events.
* Attend and assist with various committee meetings.
* Assist with day to day office tasks and other clerical activities.
* Learn about job accommodations for people with disabilities.
* Learn how to connect businesses with talent, information and resources to support their needs.
* Learn principles of job development for people with disabilities

The Ideal Candidate

The model applicant for this internship is someone who can demonstrate:

* Strong customer service.
* Effective verbal and written communication.
* Computer expertise using Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and email software.
* Knowledge of disability, accommodations and available state/national resources.
