The Utah State Department of Technology Services (DTS) is looking for an experienced Analyst to be assigned to the Department of Commerce. This position will serve as the senior SQL developer specialist as well as an application support specialist for vendor developed software/applications.

Primary Duties:

* Work with agency personnel regarding professional licensing functionality within our vendor delivered application - MLO (My License Office), eGOV (Electronic filing of licensing), and LES (legacy version of MLO).
* Design and develop SQL queries based upon user requirements and specifications provided by the business leads.
* Design and develop custom reports on an as needed basis. This could include SQL query ad-hoc reports, Crystal Reports, and / or Jasper reports.
* Assist the business leads, other technical support staff, project managers, etc. in addressing technical issues and concerns. Work quickly, efficiently, and as independently as possible towards a solution
* Test individual programs (reports, windows, etc.) and provide system tests of modules which demonstrate the successful execution of the application.
* Develops technical documentation of assigned systems and assists in customer training.
* Aid in the migration of existing applications into current programming languages.
* Implement vendor updates (or patches) as necessary into a test environment.
* Perform unit testing of software updates in a test environment.
* Assist customer where necessary during the Customer Acceptance phase of a project.
* Work with technical support staff on the deployment of software updates into a production environment.
* Troubleshoot problems experienced by agency users and determine resolution.
* Work closely with users to plan implementation, enhancements, work flow changes, and to meet user needs and expectations.
* Identifies problems or potential problem areas and recommends solutions.

The candidate chosen will work closely with the user community and bridge the gap between the vendor's delivered application and the user community's use of the application. Other typical related duties will include working with our internal database management group on the maintenance and support of the relational database, querying and reporting from relational databases, as well as evaluating vendor proposals and making recommendations regarding hardware and software acquisitions.

The Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate should have:

* Advanced knowledge and experience with Structured Query Language (SQL).
* No less than 2 years' experience writing advanced SQL queries.
* No less than 2 years' experience in application support.


Preference may be given to those with;

* Strong experience working with a vendor and can support and maintain their software.
* Knowledge of imaging solutions such as Content Manager, Documentum and Kofax.
* Web development, HTML, and Java Script experience.
* Current experience with POS (Point of Sale) support for PCI (Payment Card Industry) compliant systems.

Our systems range from a high volume mainframe backend, through a broad set of web based customer facing applications.

Typical Qualifications:

* Operate and manipulate relational databases using SQL. Generate ad-hoc reports from relational databases using SQL.
* Experience with report generators. Preference given to candidates with Crystal Report and / or Jasper report experience.
* Good analysis and research skills required.
* Good written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills required.
* Strong organization skills required.
* Strong analytical skills.
* Candidate learns quickly, is self-motivated, and can get duties done independently or with a team.
* College degree and/or experience to support the equivalent of a degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related degree.
* Preference given to candidates with knowledge of imaging solutions such as Content Manager, Documentum and Kofax.
* Preference given to candidates with web development, HTML, and Java Script experience.
* Preference given to candidates who have current experience with POS (Point of Sale) support for PCI (Payment Card Industry) compliant systems.
