Job Description

Description of Work

Department: Office of State Budget and Management

Division: Strategic Partnerships

Project Objective: Strategic Partnerships Intern will work on a range of policy issues likely to include but not be limited to workforce, broadband, reentry of formerly incarcerated people, issues of particular relevance to rural communities, and evidence-based policy (in particular, strategies for leveraging the assets of NC's institutions of higher education to support a range of state policy efforts).

Major Tasks to be Performed: Work is likely to include but not be limited to: research on besVpromising practices in other states; identifying potential sources of federal support for priority policy issues; engaging with partners from state agencies and outside of state government to further specific partnership efforts; assistance with convening stakeholders on multiple issues to identify potential areas of short- and long-term collaboration. Also likely to include drafting policy briefs and memos relevant to strategic partnerships.

Final Product or Outcome Anticipated: It is likely that the intern will be involved with and/or take the lead on multiple deliverables or aspects of deliverables. Examples may include but not be limited to: policy and research memos, engagement with strategic partnerships partners {including university representatives, agency staff, and others), and working with the Strategic Partnerships Director, Strategic Partnerships Analyst, and other team members on multi- stakeholder convening (finding meeting space, helping create agendas, taking meeting minutes, etc.).

Academic Majors Desired: public policy, public administration, social studies, communications, etc., but no specific degree focus is required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Attention to detail, especially when writing; ability to understand what it means to work in a public setting and importance of being discreet; able to work independently while knowing when to ask before moving forward with something.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

* An applicant must be a permanent North Carolina resident attending a college, university, law school, community college or technical institute in North Carolina or a North Carolina resident attending an equivalent institution out of state.
* Applicants must carry a 2.5 or greater overall grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
* Applicant must be at least 18 years old by January 1, 2020.
* Community college students must have completed their first year completed before beginning the internship.
* Applicants must be continuing their education in the fall following their participation in the program.
* To qualify for a law internship, applicants must have completed at least one year of law school before the beginning of the internship, unless other majors are listed.
* Students having previously held paid internships with this program are not eligible to apply.
* Applicants must be willing and able to work full-time for the entire 10-week internship. Applicants must be able to provide legal proof of identity and work authorization within three working days of employment.
