Description

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2,500 team members operating 10 institutions, which house approximately 5,200 inmates, statewide. Examples of Work

Procurement specialist for the facility's business office and canteen operations with working knowledge of NDCS and State of Nebraska Department of Administrative Services contracts. Processes purchase order requests and all related documentation; PCard purchases and receiving log; maintains procurement filing including electronic databases. Researches and resolves procurement issues with external vendors and internal customers, both contract and non-contract. Responsible for inmate/offender accounting procedures. Handles incoming inmate monies and receipts, and reconciles accounts. Co-coordinator of inmate payroll program (CIPS), enters all hires, dismissals and rate changes, and monitors for supervisor errors. Extracts data from ledgers and/or computer systems for analysis, reconciliation and reports. Facility liaison with NDCS IT division concerning hardware and software for the institution; maintains WEC perpetual computer hardware inventory. Coordinates on-the-job training of business office procedures for facility staff.

Qualifications / Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: Coursework/training in administrative/office support functions, procedures, and methods including the operation of personal computers and office equipment; research; or areas related to the programs and functions of the employing agency OR experience in performing administrative/office/secretarial support work including use of personal computers and office equipment.

PREFERRED: At least one year of work experience in accounting, purchasing, or related field. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Access, Excel.

OTHER: Excel test administered at time of interviews. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical examination and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Corrections Training Program.
