Job Summary

Job Summary

This position provides a quality Career Technical program in Business Management to offender students while ensuring safety and security for all staff and offenders and effective management of all resources. The position is responsible for implementation of the course content and enrolling of offender students; integration of methods of instruction to serve all types of learning styles in a classroom; assessment and grading; management of budget, supplies, and equipment for assigned work area; and all documentation and reporting requirements.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Develop an effective instructional sequence.

Create and implement a physical and interpersonal classroom environment that supports student learning within a correctional setting.

Engage students in learning and use instructional strategies that help students understand content.

Participate in on-going professional development activities and collaborate with colleagues to advance learning for teachers and students.

This position is located at a Minnesota Correctional Facility and will have direct offender contact.

Compensation for the successful candidate will be commensurate with the number of years of prior experience approved at the time of hire.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position:

Meet the criteria for an initial two year DOC Business Management credential. Criteria are the following:

Bachelor's degree or higher in Business, Marketing, Accounting, Finance or a closely related field AND 4,000 hours* of occupational experience as a small business owner-operator, working proprietor, or direct managerial employee. Experience shall include responsibility for making decisions on capital and finance, marketing, and human resources management of the business or closely related field;

OR

Associate's degree or two year diploma in Business, Marketing, Accounting, Finance or a closely related field AND 6,000 hours* of occupational experience as a small business owner-operator, working proprietor, or direct managerial employee. Experience shall include responsibility for making decisions on capital and finance, marketing, and human resources management of the business or closely related field;

OR

One year diploma in Business, Marketing, Accounting, Finance or a closely related field AND 7,000 hours* of occupational experience as a small business owner-operator, working proprietor, or direct managerial employee. Experience shall include responsibility for making decisions on capital and finance, marketing, and human resources management of the business or closely related field;

OR

8,000 hours* of occupational experience as a small business owner-operator, working proprietor, or direct managerial employee. Experience shall include responsibility for making decisions on capital and finance, marketing, and human resources management of the business or closely related field.

* 2,000 hours= approximately 1 year of full-time employment.

Hours of teaching and occupational experience must be paid and will be verified prior to hire.

* Recency Requirement: 2,000 hours (or approximately one year) of occupational experience as a small business owner-operator, working proprietor, or direct managerial employee or a closely related field shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application. The recency requirement shall be waived if you have 4,000 hours (approximately two years) of full-time (or equivalent) secondary or post-secondary teaching experience in the credentialed field within the last five years.

Preferred Qualifications:

The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:

+ Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Accounting, Finance or a closely related field.

+ Knowledge of principles and practices of teaching adult learners.

+ Experience working in an education setting.

+ Experience working in a correctional setting.

+ Experience teaching classes in Business Management.

Physical Requirements

Additional Requirements

The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections' policy.

Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections' policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.

New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
