Job Summary

ATTENTION APPLICANTS: This vacancy is being announced at two different job classes at the same time, Engineer Senior and Engineer 2 Graduate. The final class and starting salary is dependent on the successful applicant's qualifications.

The purpose of this position is to provide technical assistance to support MnDOT's Transportation Research Innovation Group (TRIG), the Local Road Research Board (LRRB) and its Research Implementation Committee (RIC) activities. The position will:

* Provide engineering knowledge, expertise, and support to internal and external customers in the development of project need statements, project scope, work plans, and contracts;
* Provide project oversight and coordination;
* Identify and document implementation and technology transfer opportunities and potential benefits;
* Manage consultant and university contracts;
* Provide engineering assistance in developing strategic direction, technical framework, and expertise; and
* Provide technical and administrative assistance to support the federal, state and local research programs.

This position also supports other staff in our office and works collectively as a functional team member in our research group.

Both in-state and out-of-state travel is required, including overnight stays. Site visits are also required which may include the need to transport equipment, meeting materials, move throughout rough and uneven terrain and other site hazards.


Minimum Qualifications:

Engineer Senior Required Qualifications:

* Licensure as a professional civil engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity. (If obtaining licensure through reciprocity, a practice pending letter from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)
* Experience conducting research on a variety of transportation topics.
* Experience in project management.
* Written and oral communication skills sufficient to conduct meetings, prepare summaries and share technical information with others.
* Human relation skills sufficient to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, peers, governing boards and other partners.

Engineer 2 Graduate Required Qualifications:

* A Bachelor's of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university and two years post-graduation civil engineering work.
* Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
* Experience researching information on a variety of topics.
* Training in project management.
* Written and oral communication skills sufficient to make presentations and share technical information with others.
* Human relation skills sufficient to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, peers, governing boards and other partners.
