Treasury Internship Program

Executive Office Research Intern - Summer 2020

About Treasury: The mission of the Office of the State Treasurer and Receiver General of Massachusetts is to prudently manage and safeguard the state's public deposits and investments through sound business practices for the exclusive benefits of our citizens, and perform these duties with integrity, excellence, and leadership. In this role, the intern will work closely with the Policy and Legislation team as well as with other members of the Executive Office staff on the Small Business Program, an initiative which moves at least $100 million in state deposits to qualified community banks for loans to small, credit worthy businesses.The capital is intended for small businesses to expand and create jobs.

Small Business Initiative Responsibilities:

* Work with the SBI team on building and maintaining a database of community partner organizations by region;
* Help prepare documents for external meetings with community partner organizations, including but not limited to: one-pager about Small Business Initiative Pilot, template emails to community partners;
* Prepare research for SBI team as needed, including lists and biographies of state and local officials;
* Aid SBI team with creation of online financial literacy toolkit, including research and warehousing of information in Excel on existing resources across the state;
* Note taking during meetings; and
* Other duties as needed.

Policy 8. Legislation Responsibilities:

* Research policy and legislative priorities;
* Prepare memos and briefs, summarizing research;
* Attend legislative hearings and events; and
* Assist in daily office management, including data entry, administrative work, and various special projects.


* Excellent oral and written communications skills;
* Strong organizational skills and work ethic;
* Ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously;
* Ability to handle confidential information in a responsible and sensitive manner; and
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel

Work Schedule:

The internship program will allow you to work Monday through Friday (except for holidays) with a 15-hour minimum work week from June to August.

* Currently pursuing high school diploma: a minimum of 8 weeks to a maximum of 10 weeks
* Pursuing or earned a college degree: a minimum of 10 weeks to a maximum of 12 weeks


In order to receive a stipend at the end of the program, interns must complete a minimum of 8 weeks for high school students and a minimum of 10 weeks for undergraduate and graduate students. Interns can intern for a longer duration, if confirmed by supervisor. The stipend for high school interns will be $1,500; for undergraduate interns $2,000; for graduate interns $2,500.
