Job Description

Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital is seeking an Occupational Therapist II who will work within the Rehabilitation Department providing Psycho-social / Psycho-educational group and individual treatment, as well as, task based treatments that will further develop functional performance skills, and to assist individuals to reach their recovery goals.

DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction and supervision, of the Director of Rehabilitation (OT III) and in collaboration of other Rehabilitation Supervisors. The Occupational Therapist Supervisor will:

* Evaluates patients' needs for therapy through interviews, direct observations, review of medical records and by conducting functional assessments to determine patients functional skills levels.


* Develops and implements treatment plans, in conjunction with Treatment Team, for patients that identify specific treatment modalities based upon functional assessment findings to ensure clinically appropriate modalities are included in the Master Treatment Plan.


* Coordinates patients' schedule and functions as the Rehabilitation liaison by generating referrals to all rehabilitation services.


* Provide clinical and operational oversight of rehabilitation services treatment schedule for assigned units and treatment locations, ensuring an engaging treatment focused milieu. Make staffing assignments that meet the clinical and operational needs of the Rehabilitation Program, Joint Commission standards, and CMS standards of care.


* Provide direct and indirect supervision of Occupational Therapists, Rehab Counselors, interns, students, etc. to ensure effective delivery of services and compliance with agency programs and policy.
* Oversee patient's evaluations and at times, evaluates patients' need for therapy through interviews, direct observations, review of medical records and by conducting functional assessments to determine patient's functional skills levels for assigned units.




* Provide supervision, clinical oversight, and may develop, as needed, Occupational/Rehabilitation treatment plans in conjunction with the Treatment Team to ensure clinically appropriate modalities are included in the Recovery based Master Treatment Plan based on the functional assessment findings, and the patients individual Recovery Goals.


* As assigned, conduct individual/group treatment, and milieu activities, both in treatment site locations, and on unit.


* Supervise and may provide documentation of patients' progress, and records result of assessments within the guidelines as mandated by accrediting bodies and billing agencies. Maintains statistics, keeps accurate billing logs, and tacks patients' attendance in programs as assigned.


* Ensure rehabilitation staff competencies by providing audits of care, supervision, training, consultation, recommend training needs, and scheduling staff to participate in training to maintain competencies in rehabilitation treatment services provided.


* Interview candidates for employment and make recommendations concerning the hiring, promotion, etc. of agency staff. (As assigned).


* Actively participate in assigned committees, participate in rehabilitation data collection/fact findings, prepare reports, and communicate report findings both written and verbally to the Director of Rehabilitation.


* Perform related duties such as maintaining records; ordering equipment, materials and supplies; attending meetings and in-service training programs, and providing on-the-job training to staff and students.


* Recommend the establishment or revision of policies, procedures and standards governing the unit.



QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED AT HIRE (List the knowledge's, skills, abilities):

* Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise and perform administrative duties for a large rehabilitation department.


* Knowledge of evidence based and best practice theory, principles, treatment methods, techniques, and procedures, of occupational therapy and rehabilitation.


* Knowledge of Occupational Therapy Assessment tools, of diagnostic and prognostic testing relative to Occupational Therapy.


* Ability to utilize and administer assessment tools needed to accurately assess patient's functional skills needed for a continuum of care both for in-patient rehabilitation and treatment, as well as discharge planning. .


* Knowledge of the terminology used in connection with Occupational Therapy.


* Knowledge of the types and uses of equipment and materials used in providing Occupational Therapy.


* Ability to motivate clients.


* Ability to understand, explain and apply the policies, procedures, specifications, standards, and guidelines governing assigned treatment areas and groups.


* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients receiving services, supervisor, peers, subordinates, and other treatment team providers.


* Ability to conduct training or instruction in O.T.


* Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports.


* Ability to supervise, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished.


* Ability to assess work of subordinates through periodic review and/or evaluations; determines subordinates training needs and provides for such training.


* Motivating subordinates to work effectively and determining the need for corrective, and or disciplinary action.


* Knowledge of fact finding skills needed to aggregate data, findings, develops written plans, and present findings both in written reports, and committees/meetings.


* Excellent interpersonal communication skills and demonstrates professional behavior


* Demonstrated ability to exercise effective/sound judgment and sensitivity to changing needs and situations


* Competence in working effectively in a dynamic, time-sensitive high volume environment.


* Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, as applied to Occupational Therapy.


* Knowledge of the social, psychological diagnoses and problems as related to Occupational Therapy.


* Knowledge of the principles of human growth and development, and educational diagnosis as related to Occupational Therapy.


* Knowledge of the principles of physical disabilities diagnosis and problems as related to Occupational Therapy.


* Ability to analyze and determine the applicability of Occupational Therapy data, to draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.


* BS degree or greater in the field of Occupational Therapy


* Valid License to practice as a Registered Occupational Therapist in MA


* Valid NBCOT, Board Certified Occupational Therapist


* Valid MA Driver's License


* Ability to drive a 15 passenger van



This position is full-time, 40 hours per week, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Days off are Saturday and Sunday.

Preferred Qualifications:

Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency.

Candidates must be able to read, write and otherwise communicate in English.

ASL preferred.
