Job Description

The Mission of the Idaho Department of Correction is to protect the public, our staff, and those within our custody and supervision through safety, accountability, partnership and providing opportunities for offender change.

Please note changes have been made to this exam to include the standards required for the Department's compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) of 2003. You must complete both exams attached to this announcement to be considered for this position.

The Idaho Department of Correction is currently recruiting for a Management Assistant. This position will fill a vacancy located in Boise, Idaho, at the Idaho State Correctional Institution. The incumbent will be a member of the institution's management team and supervises the records specialist 2.

If you have previously applied for the position of Management Assistant you must reapply under this announcement. Previous scores will not be used. Hiring lists may be created from open competitive, IDOC Department Promotional, or Statewide promotional applicants. The applications may also be used for future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months.

* Perform a variety of administrative duties to enable the Division leadership team to function more effectively
* Perform minimal secretarial or clerical support functions
* Interpret, apply and implement policies and procedures
* Resolve complex problems or issues concerning the Division
* Respond to sensitive or controversial issues from staff, offenders and families of offenders
* Experience: interpreting and applying regulations or policies and procedures
* Experience planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating special projects
* Experience independently researching, compiling, developing and summarizing material for reports on a frequent or recurring basis
* Experience analyzing information, identifying problems, defining alternatives and developing recommendations for management/administrators.


* Good knowledge of computer applications
* Experience composing official correspondence, reports, research papers, and other complex documents
* Willing to work in a Correctional Institution


To be hired, candidates will have a history and background supportive of department mission goals and will be subject to:

* Completing a Background Investigation Questionnaire and pre-employment drug testing
* Having a federal and state criminal background check to include fingerprints
* Having a history of law-abiding behavior
* Felonies, misdemeanors, illegal drug usage, DUI's, adverse driving convictions and employment history may make you ineligible for employment

Non-hiring restrictions are in place for candidates who:

* Have been convicted of Domestic Violence or similar types of violent behaviors
* Have a dishonorable discharge from military service
* Currently are using, dealing or are associated with illegal drugs
* Have close friends or relatives under IDOC care & custody where the vacancy exists
* Are currently under IDOC supervision or probation (must be released from IDOC supervision or probation for at least one year)
