Description of Job

General Duties

* Review agency payments to ensure all expenditure elements are correct which includes account, grant and appropriation coding, procurement and encumbrance ramifications, and overall understanding of transaction workflow
* Journal Entries - research, prepare, provide support, and comply with generally accepted accounting principles as well as State and Department policies for multiple types of correcting entries
* Process monthly fuel card payments
* Process monthly fleet service billing
* Input customer refunds
* Submit customers to State Collections as needed.
* Assist with ongoing accounting functions
* Assist with special and/or one-off projects (prepare training materials, light reconciliations, research, etc.)
* Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Three years of technical accounting experience. Must be proficient in Excel at an intermediate level.

The excellent candidate demonstrate experience working in a professional accounting office with at least three years of performing technical accounting duties to include; accounts payable, journal entries, accounts receivable, year-end close, and reconciliations. Government experience is highly desirable but not required.

DESIRED COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

* Understanding of accounting principles and concepts and the ability to apply these in day-to-day functions in a fair, reasonable, and logical basis. Government accounting experience is preferred.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to work through issues, provide multiple options for resolution, and recommend process improvements as appropriate.
* Strong customer service skills. This position will be required to interact with department, financial services, and field personnel.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Must be able to adapt quickly and seamlessly to various and changing work environments and management styles.
* Ability to learn quickly and work independently with limited guidance and instruction.
* Strong Excel experience and skills including the ability to create complex worksheets, pivot tables, vlookups, and other similar functions.
* Attention to detail.
* Ability to multi-task.

* Former employees of the State of Colorado MUST have concluded employment in good standing to be eligible for rehire.
