Job Description

DUTIES Under the direction of the Education Administrator of the CALPADS/CBEDS/CDS Operations Office (CCCOO), and working closely with the Senior Staff Information Systems Analyst within the CCCOO, the Associate Information Systems Analyst performs technical activities related to the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS). CALPADS is the state's primary system for the collection of student and staff level data for all public school students attending California public schools. It is an extremely complex, large system that maintains data longitudinally, involving a complicated data structure, multiple data files, processing methods, validation rules, and overnight processing.

Working with other business and technical staff, the incumbent helps identify appropriate technical solutions that meet business needs and helps implement solutions by developing requirements, writing design specifications, and conducting impact analysis.
Serve as a technical business analyst for CALPADS. Understand the state and federal program reporting requirements that drive the collection of data in CALPADS, including how data are submitted, stored, and reported, and how the business rules within CALPADS validate and impact how data is reflected in CALPADS reports. Analyze requirements for the collection of new data as required by business needs or legislative requirements.
Utilize FootPrints to support the management of change and issues for CALPADS including developing reports to prioritize and track changes required for CALPADS submissions.
Provide backup support to the CDE's ESI database which drives the CALPADS Security Model for data submission and certification. Implement minor changes to maintain the ESI data model based on new business requirements using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
Provide backup support for maintaining outward facing technical documentation, including the CALPADS File Specifications, Code Sets, Valid Code Combinations, and other related technical documentation.
Support the CDE vendor liaison with student information system (SIS) vendor bi-monthly conference calls, creates the agenda, and communicates changes.
Participate in staff meetings, assists other staff with critical projects as needed, performs other job related duties as required.
