The Douglas Mansion has been an eye-catching landmark in Jerome since 1916, when James S. Douglas built it on the hill just above his Little Daisy Mine. This former home is now a museum devoted to the history of the Jerome area and the Douglas family. The museum features photographs, artifacts and minerals in addition to a video presentation and a 3-D model of the town with its underground mines. There are more displays outside along with a picnic area offering a beautiful panoramic view of the Verde Valley.

This is a Temporary/Seasonal Position, May work up to 40 hours per week and up to 1500 hours per year.



Greet and provide information to park visitors. Enforce park rules, collect fees, issue permits and perform office and clerical duties. May serve as an interpretive guide, conduct programs and perform museum artifact maintenance. Perform work of moderate difficulty in maintaining campgrounds and day use areas, trail work, landscape and grounds maintenance, litter and garbage collection, cleaning restroom and shower facilities. Performs routine facility maintenance, general housekeeping and custodial tasks. Performs moderate level construction work on special projects and painting. Inspect and patrol park grounds for vandalism, malfunctions or problems.


Knowledge of basic techniques in maintenance and upkeep of facilities restrooms and park grounds. Knowledge of basic techniques for displaying and interpreting objects/artifacts and general resources to visitors. Knowledge of general office procedures. Knowledge of motor vehicle operation and repair.

Skill in basic practices and techniques in the maintenance and upkeep of facilities and grounds. Sill in general construction techniques including plumbing, wood working and electrical. Skill in driving, operating and maintaining automotive equipment. Skill in the area of customer service and information dissemination. Skill in hand and power tool operation. Skill in oral and written communications. Skill in interpersonal relationships.

Ability to understand and apply park rules and collect park fees. Ability to operate communications equipment.

Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)

Eligible for Arizona State Retirement System pension. Enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment for newly hired State of Arizona employees.
