Job Description

St. Louis University High School invites applications for the following position: Director of Theater Operations.

St. Louis University High is a Catholic, Jesuit, college preparatory school with an enrollment of approximately 1,000 male students. Founded in 1818, the school strives to serve an economically, socially and geographically diverse student population within the St. Louis metropolitan area. Academic excellence is a trademark of the school. We seek men and women of faith proficient in their fields and committed to leading students in co-curricular and pastoral ministry activities. The school expects faculty and staff to participate in spiritual formation programs, retreats, and Ignatian formation in education and formation.

The Director of Theater Operations is responsible for overseeing daily operations of the Joseph F. Schulte Theater through the oversight of back and front of house operations, technology, rentals, general maintenance, capital expenditures, yearly budgeting, and general operations. He/she also serves as the Technical Director for all the programming throughout the year and ensures the readiness and smooth operation of the venue during performances. He/she supervises Technical Assistants, student theater crews and outside contracted labor.

Responsibilities include:

  • Interviewing, hiring, and training employees.
  • Planning, assigning, and directing employee and student work.
  • Appraising employee and student performance.
  • Budgeting and planning, resolving rental user and patron complaints.

Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Technical Theater or a related field from an accredited college or university required along with experience in live performance production as a stage manager with a theater or performing arts organization.

The person hired for this position will serve full-time as the Director of Theater Operations beginning July 1, 2018.
