Job Description

We are seeking a high caliber Software Engineer. Working under general supervision of the software development manager, collaborates with software requirements, software development and software test engineers to design and implement mobile applications for use with medical devices. Assignments may include, but are not limited to, analyzing requirements and providing strategic feedback, implementing requirements, troubleshooting, debugging, and maintaining of software, test, or tool designs, cases, scripts, procedures and/or code based on strategic analysis. Work requires the application of theoretical engineering principles, evaluation, ingenuity, and creative/analytical techniques typically acquired in a recognized four-year or more academic course of specialized study. Exercises level appropriate technical judgment in planning, organizing, performing, and/or coordinating engineering work. Stays abreast of and communicates technical advancements to colleagues and associates. Routinely uses the most effective, cost efficient and best practices to execute processes.

Implements new software functionality and enhancement requests; maintains existing software products.
Actively participates in software design activities.
Troubleshoots and fixes software defects.
Reviews software development deliverables.
Holds and participates in software code inspections.
Develops and executes unit and integration test cases.
Participates in quality and process improvement initiatives.
Leverages and practices software development industry best practices.
Maintains software deliverables and changes within the change management system.
Independently determines and develops approach to solutions while working closely with the software development team to refine and review design and implementation.

Your experience(s), education and knowledge will further expand St. Jude Medical's marketplace success:

Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field.
Internship or relevant software engineering work experience on multiple platforms with varied programming languages.
Demonstrated experience with developing mobile applications.
Excellent understanding of object oriented analysis, design and implementation.
Experience with the C# programming language.
Experience developing software on different platforms such as mobile and/or desktop.
Experience troubleshooting software bugs and using debuggers and emulators.
Understanding of modern software development life cycle models.
Understanding of unit and integration testing.
Understanding of multi-threaded concurrency issues and performance optimization.
Knowledge of software design patterns and standard modeling languages such as UML.
Demonstrated written and verbal communication, interpersonal, analytical, organization, and follow-up skills, the ability to meet deadlines, as well as the ability to converse effectively with all levels of employees.
Must be able to handle multiple assignments.
Must be able to perform in a diverse cross-functional team environment.

Your preferred qualifications and education:

Experience with multiple object oriented languages such as Java and Objective-C.
Excellent understanding of object oriented analysis, design and implementation.
Experience working with Agile software development.
Demonstrated experience with unit testing and test driven methodologies
