Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Director of Nursing for Cancer Services and the designated medical staff program director, the nurse navigator coordinates the patient care, research components and program outreach for the patient diagnosed with cancer. This includes monitoring patients through screening/diagnostic evaluation, assisting patients with navigation through healthcare systems, provision of education and emotional support, identification and development programs and services to enhance patient care and support for program outreach referring physicians and the community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

* Bachelors of Science Nursing (BSN)

Experience:

* Five (5) or more years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a health care setting with three (3) or more years of experience in oncology nursing

License/Certification:

* Current California Registered Nursing License
* Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
* Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN), Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse (AOCN), Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP), Advanced Oncology Certified Clinical Nurse Specialist (AOCNS), Certified Breast Cancer Nurse (CBCN) or successful completion of one of these certifications within one year of DOH

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

* Masters degree in Nursing (MSN)

Experience:

* Community education experience
