Job Description

St. Benedict's Prep, an innovative urban prep school, seeks an energetic, dedicated, full-time high school Language Arts/Social Studies Teacher to begin in late July.

The position is working with students in the Learning Center, who receive additional support and individualized instruction that is designed to help them succeed as learners, gain necessary post-graduation skills, and grow in college readiness. Faculty members are also expected to participate in another facet of school life, whether as a coach or activity moderator. We have needs in many areas, including assistant coaches in most sports.

The applicant must be able to collaborate as part of a team to:

  • Determine which candidates would best be helped by the additional support and which students are no longer in need of additional support.
  • Determine whether or not the additional support offered by the Learning Center to a particular student has been successful.
  • Determine which students might be best served by taking part in a different program, school, or institution.
  • Create and implement individualized instruction to students in a small group setting.
  • Provide students with tutoring and homework help when needed.
  • Work with students to help them achieve mastery of foundational reading and communication skills.

An ideal candidate for the position should have:

  • A background in academic support services.
  • A background or certification in Language Arts or Reading support.
  • Experience in working with at risk populations.
  • Proficiency in digital technology.
  • The ability to work as part of a team where social-emotional learning goals are discussed and evaluated.

St. Benedict's Prep is a 150-year-old Catholic school with a rigorous academic program. The 750 students (co-ed K-6, single sex boys and girls 7-8, and all-boys 9-12) and 60 faculty members work together to build a community whose members are responsible to one another for developing character and talent.
