Job Description

Job Brief

Performs highly specialized technical work involving the installation, operations and maintenance of software, firmware and hardware of computer based operational electronic systems. This may include equipment specific to electromechanical devices, protective relays, remote terminal units, communications, communications systems used to monitor, control and protect electric and water systems. The field analyst will be assigned to special technical projects in conjunction with other shops and engineering departments and outside vendors.  Provides business case analytical services as a project leader or in an area of technical specialty, in a technically sound, safe, timely and cost effective manner to enable SRP to realize its goals and objectives.

Job Responsibilities

  • Reviews and interprets proposed installation prints, diagrams and assess all aspects of the field project with engineering department as a resource to validate implementation design and identify problems.
  • Works independently to implement new design or system modification that will enhance system performance.
  • Recommends changes in circuitry or installation specifications to simplify or improve system operations.
  • Sets up test apparatus to conduct laboratory, functional, operational, environmental, and life tests to evaluate performance and reliability of electronic systems.
  • Analyzes and interprets test and performance data.  Adjusts, calibrates, aligns, and modifies electronic equipment and records effect on unit performance.
  • Performs studies, analyses, surveys and investigations requiring intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices in an area of technical specialty, a significant knowledge of related fields, and the development of new and approved techniques and procedures.
  • Prepares technical reports, develops charts, graphs, and schematics to describe and illustrate system's operating characteristics, malfunctions, deviations from design specifications, and functional limitations.
  • Working with engineering and other departments to build a business case to support the technology strategy.
  • Assesses performance and stability of newly installed equipment to evaluate system performance under actual operating conditions.
  • Uses job knowledge to develop department training curriculum and conducts the training as the expert for all personnel on the electronic systems.
  • Performs as a staff consultant and/or advisor in the area of relay, control, and communication technologies.
  • Perform hands on work involving the installation, provisioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of telecommunications electronic equipment.
  • Safe installation practices as they pertain to the construction of telecommunication infrastructure (racks, equipment, grounding, cables, and associated terminations).
  • Systems level familiarity of complex, fully integrated telecommunication networks in support of power, water, and corporate operations.
  • Analyze and report on complex network designs, architecture, and associated telecommunication hardware
  • NERC-CIP compliance and cyber security
  • Asset management, Change management, and Outage management
  • Other duties as assigned

Education

Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.

Experience

Five years or more as Senior Technician or Technologist. Previous Experience as a Control Technician, Relay Technician, Communications Technician, Engineering Technician, Computer Technician, IT Technician, Electronics Technician, Meter Relay Technician, Instrumentation Technician, Power Production Technician, Electrician or Digital Control Specialist.

Candidates should have knowledge and experience specific to the following:

  • CCNA or Equivalent Networking Experience
  • Cisco IOS, Cisco NX-OS, Cisco Wireless (Controllers, Access-points, Applications)
  • Cisco Switches 3750, 3600, 3650, 3750, 3400ME, 2520, 4510, IE2000, IE3000
  • Layer 2 Switching and Layer 3 Routing
  • Layer 2 Services: Fiber Channel and Carrier Ethernet
  • Network Services:  Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, 802.1x, etc.
  • User Authentication; Cisco ACS
  • Firewalls: ISA Firewalls, Check Point Routers, CGR-2010, 2950, 3800,
  • Routing protocols and provisioning: OSPF, EIGRP, IS-IS, BGP/MP-BGP, MPLS, LDP, Multicast, IPv4/IPv6, VPRN, VRF
  • Layer 1, 2, 3 security tools, techniques, and methods

Additional Information

  • Utilize test equipment used to qualify and troubleshoot various transport network systems.
  • Analyze and decipher circuit performance.
  • Assess system operation events and troubleshoot, analyze circuit failure.
  • Operate technical test equipment.
  • Provide detailed written and verbal communication with customer base, engineering, and external professional entities.
  • Assess technology improvement hardware, software and firmware stability and improvement opportunities.
  • Must have excellent communication, organization, leadership, and customer service skills, along with strong business ethics.
