The Mechanical Engineering Intern is responsible for completing transformer drawings from the Internal and External layouts for designs. This may also include detailing, working on BOM, and/or checking others work. The intern will work closely with the Mechanical Designers, Controls Designers, and other engineering support staff to ensure that our customer specifications and due dates are met. The Mechanical Design Intern will be expected to utilize any and all programs to function effectively including but not limited to: Pro\Engineer, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft OneNote and SAP.


Responsible for:

* Completing transformer mechanical drawings based on the internal and external layout, standard practices, and/or from technical advisories.
* Calculating dimensions, allowances, and specifications per standard procedures or general design knowledge of shop capabilities when standard procedures do not exist. Verifying and updating drawings as required.
* Providing technical support and training of others when required.
* Assisting the supervisor in the planning and scheduling of the design and detailing processes.

* Assisting on development projects as requested by supervisor. This may also include completion of standard processes or practices and computer programs.

* Recommending and developing new procedures to improve the efficiency of the detailing process.


* Knowledge of 3D software
* Excellent process and problem solving skills
* An understanding of drafting procedures
* An excellent team player with strong people skills; ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization
* Effective communication skills, including verbal (logical and organized), written, listening and presentation
* Computer skills: highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications and ProE
* Some occasional travel may be required


Required Education / Experience

* Currently pursuing Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering Drafting and Design or approved equivalent
* Proven ability to perform assignments under minimal supervision, with assistance as required for design questions or technical problem.
