About Springhill Medical Center

Springhill Medical Center is offering patients the opportunity to experience significantly more comfortable magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exams with the recent installation of the Vantage MRI system from Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. With improved scanning capabilities, the system also affords patients faster exam times and higher quality results. It is the third of its kind installed in the U.S. "This is the world's quietest magnet delivering half the noise level of most other magnets," said Jack Dempsey, Springhill Medical Center Director of Radiology. "Other MRIs don't even come close to how quiet this one is." Historically, MRI examinations have been among the most difficult experiences for patients - causing serious anxiety and claustrophobia for many. The primary culprits have been noisy, tunnel-like systems and long exam times. "Our MRI system's design makes it feel more open, and the quietness of the Vantage during scanning is more calming for the patient, so we are able to alleviate many of our patients' concerns with claustrophobia and overall discomfort during an MRI," Dempsey said. "When the patient is more at ease, we have greater success with the scan and capture better images to make a confident diagnosis and can move on to address the best treatment path." The Vantage is designed to improve the patient experience with new, exclusive patient comfort features. The world's shortest magnet and an ultra-short bore platform offer greater openness for claustrophobic patients by minimizing the feeling of being inserted into a tube-like machine. Utilizing magnetic technology to study muscles, tendons, organs, ligaments, the brain, and spinal chord nerves, the Vantage MRI is equipped with Toshiba's patented Pianissimo noise reduction technology, which effectively reduces scan noise by as much as 90 percent. The Vantage is a high-field MRI system that performs a wide variety of MRI exams and includes the latest hi-tech imaging. The new MRI is located on the Springhill Medical Center campus adjacent to the Gerald Wallace Auditorium.
