We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly organized Associate Editor to round out our editorial team in the Biomedicine group. The Associate Editor will build on - and develop further - the portfolio in Cancer Research.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Book Acquisitions activities: Within Cancer Research or other Biomedicine disciplines assigned by editorial management, pursues an active and efficient acquisitions policy through correspondence, meetings/editorial travel, consulting advisors, etc.
* Prepares proposals for approval and creates and routes contracts for signing.
* Within the discipline(s) assigned, responsible for defining, maintaining, and furthering the company's accepted goals in terms of program growth and development.
* Meets goals set by editorial management for contracts signed, manuscripts transmitted to production, and titles published each year.
* Interacts within the company with other acquisitions editors, production department, product managers, sales department, counterparts in Springer offices abroad, etc.
* Monitors other departments' activities on behalf of the Associate Editor's projects, and coordinates the Associate Editor's program (where possible) with corresponding programs in other Springer locations.
* Conducts market and competitive research in support of and at the direction of editorial management.
* In collaboration with Editors, Associate Editor may take on some journal management responsibilities including but not limited to web research on journal statistics and liaising with Editors-in-Chief.
* Working with internal data systems for completeness and accuracy.
* Responding to author/editor needs and establishing a long-term, ongoing good-will relationship.
* Remain a point of contact for authors/editors and Production department throughout the publication process.
* Updating status reports for books and journals - maintaining a projects database for proposals as well as forthcoming and published books and journal issues.
* Business travel (domestic/international) as required.
* Performs related duties as required.

REQUIRED BACKGROUND:

* Bachelor's degree or equivalent required
* Minimum 2 - 4 years' experience in related editorial capacity
* Diplomatic and assertive communication skills, both verbal and written, able to work with demanding stake-holders
* Must be well-organized and attentive-to-detail, able to prioritize and multitask effectively
* Strong sense of teamwork but also self-motivated, able to work well independently with minimal supervision, including within a (virtual) team environment
* Be resourceful and proactive in dealing with problems and queries
* Be able to adhere to already-established procedures
* MS Office skills required; comfort with databases, web research and social media strongly preferred
