We are currently seeking an Associate Editor to join our Clinical Medcine Books Acquisition team. The Associate Editor is responsible for acquiring and publishing content within part of the exisiting portfolio program.

Specific responsibilities include:

* Sign approximately 12 to 15 book projects per year by pursuing an active and efficient acquisitions strategy through research, email, and telephone correspondence; this is also done through travel to medical meetings and to academic health centers
* Acquires book projects in surgery, pathology, and clinical medical genetics
* Approximately 5% travel required as well as strong initiative and independent functioning
* Prepare and execute publishing agreements for own projects and those of senior editors on team
* Evaluate and prepare final manuscripts for own projects and those of senior editors on team
* Develop a circle of reviewers and advisors to assist with peer review of proposals and manuscripts, and to also assist with strategy
* Maintain continuous cooperation and dialog with marketing staff as needed, and with developmental and/or production staff locally and overseas concerning individual projects
* Communicate regularly with overseas editorial counterparts
* Keep accurate status reports of all projects in the program via reporting systems and communicates status on a consistent basis via these systems to Editorial Director, editorial team, and others as needed (e.g., marketing and sales)
* Reviews and discusses strategy, new projects and plans with Editorial Director, and editorial colleagues on team, in department, and globally, particularly in overlapping areas
* Performs related duties as required

Job Requirements:

* Educated to degree or equivalent [preferably in a relevant field of study]
* Excellent English language skills
* At least 2 years previous experience in scholarly publishing and exposure to acquisitions process
* Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be numerate and IT systems-literate, with a sharp eye for detail
* Be a diplomatic and assertive individual who is able to work with demanding stake-holders
* Be able to organise and prioritise numerous tasks and be able to work on their own initiative
* Resourceful and proactive in dealing with problems and queries
* Have excellent team-working skills to deal with people within the company and externally at all levels
* Excellent networking skills
* Ability to work independently within a global team environment
