Events Sales Executive

The Spokesman-Review is the most used and most trusted news and information provider in the Inland Northwest. We’ve served the community for over a century by providing up to date, accurate information on news and events taking place right outside your backdoor.

We are now looking to expand and build on our events business and we’re searching for an Event Sales Executive to join our Marketing Department. If you are passionate about building and developing lasting customer relations, if you are looking for a position where your contributions produce new and non-traditional revenue, and if you want to be part of an exciting and new business opportunity, then this is the position for you.

The Events Sales Executive will be responsible for sales and follow through for all Spokesman-Review external and internal events. The individual will work with the Events Manager, and Marketing Department leadership to build the events business each year through revenue growth, profit growth and additional audience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Research and identify prospects for sponsors, title sponsors, and exhibitors for external and internal events, with input from Marketing Department leadership.
• Qualify best prospects for event sponsorship or exhibitor sales by identifying and contacting advertising budget decision-makers.
• Work with Events Manager to set monthly and quarterly sales targets, and meet daily with Events Manager for brief one-on-one sales status reports.
• Determine prospects’ key goals and present a package that helps achieve those goals.
• Develop client and prospect profiles regarding consumer targets segmented by geography, demographic and lifestyles, current promotion mix and positioning strategy.
• Consistently keep sales funnel full on future event sales, by month, quarter, and six-month periods.
• Work with Event Manager and Marketing Department leadership to identify future event opportunities.
• Offer thoughtful and skillful negotiation to clients; achieve consistent close ratios.
• Plan and manage territory with emphasis on acquiring, retaining and developing customer base.
• Monitor and manage account financial activity in compliance with company policies and procedures.

Who you are:
• Excellent listening skills, customer service skills, and ability to present confidently to any size prospect.
• Able to understand and effectively counter sales objections.
• Exhibit creative thinking, and problem solving skills in a positive manner.
• Able to meet with customers in-field, face-to-face; higher percentage of work hours will be in the field.
• Able to work cooperatively with other Sales Executives, in-office or on four-legged sales calls.
• Have a thorough knowledge of various multimedia platforms, and the ability to decipher the success/failure of a promotion on these  platforms.
• You have the skills that will allow you to meet and exceed marketing goals, and to work independently.
• Able to work events that may be outside of regular office days and hours; including evenings and weekends; may require periodic travel.
• You have a college degree with concentration in communications, advertising or marketing.

The position is base + commission with the potential to earn approximately $45K a year. The position also offers a full suite of benefits (medical, dental, life insurance, etc.), paid vacation and sick time, and a matching 401(k) program.
