Job Description

Field Operations Intern Program

The 2019 Summer Field Operations Intern Program is open for dedicated and hardworking students. The goal of the Spectrum Field Operations Intern Program is to provide current students with exposure to a real-life business setting, while giving them the opportunity to learn about our industry. Spectrum provides an atmosphere that is intended to broaden an entry level candidate's professional understanding while promoting self-confidence, accomplishment, and career development.

The program is 10 weeks in length and will run from June 3, 2019 through August 9, 2019.

Summary of Projects:

The job duties and expectations for the Project Management intern include, but are not limited to the following:

General Description: Partner/shadow with 4 Regional Project Managers across the Southern California Management Areas; and, you will then be responsible for assisting and/or managing project(s) from beginning to end for the West Regional Field Operations organization.

Day-to-Day Activities

* Manage the complete portfolio of work for the project(s) assigned to present to the West Region VP of Field Operations
* Be aware of the overall status of each workstream, and able to review it in conversation whenever requested
* Document and communicate the overall status of each workstream to team members on a regular basis
* Understand the risk and dependencies associated with each workstream, and actively work to mitigate those risks and reduce those dependencies whenever possible
* Understand and document the team's capacity, based on the agreement and individual team members availability
* Working together with the Project Manager, ensure there is clearly defined work in an organized Task List derived from an approved Project Charter
* Plan/schedule working sessions for each team member based on team bandwidth
* Ensure all tasks are clearly defined, accurately estimated, scheduled, and assigned to the appropriate resource
* Follow up with team members as needed to ensure tasks are being completed on-time and to business standards
* Facilitating communication between team members and taking/circulating notes

Time & Budget Activities

* Define tasks based on scope of work and agreed activities/deliverables to ensure proper tracking is possible
* Follow up with Project Managers as needed to ensure all time is accurately logged to the right tasks on a regular basis

Stakeholder-Facing Activities

* Observe/shadow the various stakeholders within the company e.g. activity, chair-side, ride alongs, meetings
* Work face-to-face with stakeholders to gather, understand, and document the requirements of any given request or project
* Ensure that all solutions delivered meet business requirements

Duties & Responsibilities:

* Completing a summer project assigned by respective department and/or functional area
* Working with fellow interns on a cross-functional group project
* Attending internship development activities as scheduled
* Ability to commit to a full time work schedule (40 hours/week) for the length of the program
* Performing other duties as assigned
* Valid California drivers license and the ability to travel to other work sites as needed

Skills required for program:

* Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four year college or university
* Rising Junior (current sophomore) and above
* Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA required
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Word)
* Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
* Ability to handle high levels of pressure and critical decision-making

Rising Junior or higher with a minimum GPA of 3.0 preferably with a major in one of the functional areas listed below:

* Business and/or Public Administration
* Industry Analysis
* Information and Decision Sciences
* Management
* Marketing
