Job Description

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

Hardware Design Engineer

Responsibilities:

* Provide engineering expertise in the area of design, development and test space hardened avionics hardware that will support the functions of our launch vehicles and spacecraft
* Duties include subsystem design and prototyping, schematic capture, prototype bring-up and debugging, hardware bug tracking, functional verification and signal characterization. In addition, support through production and test is expected.

Basic Qualifications:

* Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering.
* Candidates must have hands-on internship or project experience involving analog, digital or mixed-signal design principles.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

* Masters of Science degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering or equivalent area of focus.
* Experience in analog to digital and digital to analog converters, power supply components and design, analog testing/troubleshooting techniques, and signal integrity, layout and grounding principles.
* Board level experience designing hardware from concept through production; strong emphasis on full lifecycle development of new hardware systems -- not small incremental updates to legacy hardware.
* Basic understanding of computers and programming languages (C/C++, Matlab, Assembly language, Python).
* Passion for advancing the commercial space industry and human spaceflight.
* Ability to work in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding start-up atmosphere.
* Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

Additional Requirements:

* Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed.

ITAR Requirements:

* To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State. About SpaceX

SpaceX is developing a family of launch vehicles and spacecraft intended to increase the reliability and reduce the cost of both manned and unmanned space transportation, ultimately by a factor of ten. With the Falcon 1 and Falcon 9 vehicles, SpaceX offers highly reliable/cost-efficient launch capabilities for spacecraft insertion into any orbital altitude and inclination. Starting in 2010, SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft will provide Earth-to-LEO transport of pressurized and unpressurized cargo, including resupply to the International Space Station (ISS). Founded in 2002, SpaceX is a private company owned by management and employees, with minority investments from Founders Fund and DFJ. The SpaceX team now numbers nearly 800, with corporate headquarters in Hawthorne, California.
