Job Description

DIETETIC INTERN

General Summary

This internship presents the opportunity to support Southern Research's efforts to help employees incorporate wellness into their personal and working environment. This internship is a great opportunity for someone pursuing a career in nutrition, dietetics, and/or public health. The ideal candidate must be energetic, a team player, detail-oriented and dedicated to the achievement of personal and team goals. This internship requires a candidate with confidence in interpersonal communication, excellent writing skills, and a passion for improving the health of others. Southern Research presents the opportunity for such an individual to gain practice hours of supervised pre-professional experience to apply towards eligibility for the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) examination. In the supervised practice setting, the dietetic intern will work under the guidance of a preceptor to identify general health and wellness activities that may be adopted by the organization. Strong interpersonal skills, competence in pre-requisite background knowledge, good organizational and time management skills are required. The dietetic intern must be able to meet deadlines and work within a defined timeframe, and prioritize tasks/responsibilities. The incumbent will participate in activities to develop skills and competencies that will help provide practical experience in preparing to sit for the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) examination.

Key Responsibilities

* Assist with the identification of potential workplace wellness initiatives to improve the health and quality of life of Southern Research employees.


* Review workplace wellness programs of other local employers as options for Southern Research.



Requirements/Minimum Qualifications

* Baccalaureate Degree in Nutrition or a related discipline, completion of a Didactic Program in Dietetics, and enrollment in an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND)-accredited Dietetic Internship, OR


* Enrollment in an ACEND-accredited Coordinated Program in Dietetics


* Excellent written & oral communications skills


* High level of interpersonal skills necessary to provide counseling to employees on nutrition related issues.


* Basic personnel skills for interaction with a diverse group of people in the work setting.


* Strong project management skills.
