Job Description

JOB TITLE: Student Communications Intern

DEPARTMENT: Communications

REPORTS TO: Video/Communication Specialist

WORK YEAR: 12 months, hours vary (avg 10-15 hrs/week)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Student Communications Intern is responsible for capturing district-wide events through video, photography, news releases and/or other digital media. This role will assist in creating content that may be posted to social media, digital signage, website, marketing materials, and/or other promotional initiatives. The Student Communications Intern is part of the Communications Team.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

* Film or photograph sporting events, concerts, school board meetings and other events as assigned.
* Write news releases/articles on attended events.
* Non-linear video editing and graphics (Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, etc.) to create a final product that is of professional quality.
* Assist the Video/Communications Specialists with the production of School Board meetings.
* Works closely with the Video/Communications Specialists and other Student Videographers for the district.
* Work to ensure the awareness of the diversity of each high school through video, photos, web articles and social media posts.
* When time permits, produce original content (video, web articles, etc.) that highlight special events and opportunities taking place within the student's school and/or across the district.
* Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):

Required:

* A strong interest, through coursework and/or extracurricular activities, in video production/broadcasting, journalism, photography and/or equivalent work experience.
* Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
* Proven organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to be creative and flexible for both time and production of work.
* Ability to work independently and on a deadlines.
* Knowledge of Mac Computers and software; primarily non-linear editing software (Final Cut Pro).
* Prompt, regular and reliable attendance.
* Communicates with other students, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and the community in a positive and responsive way that is consistently welcoming and enhances effective work relationships.
* Demonstrates an appreciation of diversity in all interactions and job functions.
