Job Description

Position Summary

A career in Financial Reporting will provide the opportunity to prepare and distribute periodic financial statements for users other than those directly employed by the organization. This also includes ensuring all reports and disclosures comply with applicable government regulations, professional standards and organization policies. They will also prepare consolidation journal entries, eliminate intercompany transactions and consolidate divisional and subsidiary financial accounts in a timely and accurate basis for inclusion in internal and external financial statements.

Roles within Financial Reporting are responsible for all accounting and financial reporting activities: including accounts payable, billing, inventory valuation, inventory control, budgeting and tax accounting. The Controller also manages their company's financial and administrative functions in a manner consistent with generally accepted accounting principles and SJI policies & procedure.

Roles and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

* Independently planning and executing wider array of tasks that support non-routine activities and project goals
* Selecting appropriate methods and techniques in performing tasks
* Collaborating with supervisory personnel to develop methods and demonstrating strong level of understanding project goals and methods
* Maintaining familiarity with processes and structures and applying appropriately to various projects
* Possibly leading group meetings. Presenting results of work, interpreting data, and drawing conclusions regarding presented material and nature of work

This role will have a wide range of experiences and use professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways. You will work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. It is expected that you will exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Additionally, you will network with key contacts outside own area of expertise.

It is expected that your role assists in project design that will enable the department/ group/team to meet goals. You will impact your own work team and cross-functional project teams. Additionally, it is expected that you will make decisions that impact the company's ability to achieve short-term timelines.You will determine methods and procedures on new assignments. You may coordinate activities of other personnel (Team Lead). Your role typically reports to Managers/ Directors.

Additionally, the level and nature of interaction of your role includes:

* Providing training and guidance to new team members
* Serving as a technical resource or subject matter expert on processes and techniques to more junior employees

This is a role that contributes through own efforts and application of expertise, skills, or tasks.


* Bachelor's degree with 8 years of relevant experience, or;
* Master's degree or CPA with 6 years of relevant experience.
* Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
* Certified Public Accountant or other certification required.
* Good analytical and communication skills are required.
* Knowledge of financial regulatory policies associated with SEC filings is required.
* Knowledge of the accounting, financial and tax practices associated with the utilities industry is preferred.

Successful candidate will serve as the technical subject matter expert in all financial reporting needs. Additional duties will include:

* Monitor compliance of established accounting policies, practices and procedures. Recommend changes in and additions to such practices. Develop internal controls & oversee audits of policies and procedures meant to preserve the division's assets.
* Manage the preparation of consolidated financial statements, footnotes and related accounting information to be included in the Securities and Exchange Commission Form 10-K, 10-Q, Annual Report to Shareholders, and regulatory financial filings.
* Work in conjunction with rates and regulatory team to prepare and/or review accounting related regulatory filings.
* Oversee the work of consultants who assist in developing more complex accounting estimates and other area of financial reporting.
* Prepare technical accounting analysis as needed, specifically including but not limited to goodwill impairment process and accounting for regulatory operations.
* Assist with the preparation of compensation analysis and disclosures related to incentives, pension and other post-retirement employee benefit plans.
